Playing on realistic level, the game doesn't seem short. The STORY seems as long as Deus Ex's. I've been playing 4-6 hours a day, and the moment I thought would be the end seems to be the halfway or three-quarters mark.

dunno, i'm like 1/3 through. game time 5 hours. and i explore every damn place i can. so i would say it's quite short.
ok, i don't play on realistic though, my comp just doesn't run it that good and constant reloading would really piss me off and ruin the fun :(

Man, you are so ahead of the rest of other Europeans who look forward to the release of the game! What, an uncle from the US has sent you a nice pre-Xmas gift? :cheeky:

Um, I explore every nook and cranny, myself, and guess what? The timer says 15 hours -- and that doesn't include reload time.

Hmnn...This might be a silly question and all, but how do you know that your already 1/3 of the way through if you haven't played it before? (no spoilers please)

looked at the map/mission list. besides, map files show quite well how many places there are.
and the quests don't even take half as much time as thoroughly searching all the locations :)

a friend bought it for me and sent me an iso immediately over the internet and the cd and other stuff is coming sometime soon via mail? don't like waiting around too much when other ppl are already playing :)

about the short/not short thing... finished it in 13 game hours.
explored every little part of the game world... a small one i'd say. completed every little goal (with the exception of choice goals of course), pretty much killed every hostile guy. mainly went in quietly and not too violently but came out guns blazing and stuff :)

i'm a super slow gamer, i guess from being a taffer and taking my time. but i was SO disappointed in IW. :( i finished it in 14 hours and that's exploring everywhere.
to my mind, it's focussed on being an action race game. no stealth, no meaningful conversations, no duplicity, no world shaking revelations, no impending sense of betrayal.
it doesn't help that it doesn't run well at all on my machine: PC 2.53, 512 MB RAM, AIW Radeon 9700 Pro @ 128 mb, Audigy 2. XP Pro SP1, DX 9.0b. not to mention going thru every Catalyst Release since the 3.2's to find one that worked a bit better than the rest.
i guess the most upsetting thing of all is that now i'm afraid Thief 3 is gonna be the same kinda awful jumble. and i just can't believe anything that comes outta Warren's mouth anymore. he resembles nothing less than a carnival huckster to me ... saying anything to promote his games. :(
such a disappointment.

Hmm. I never got in a stand up firefight during my first play through. If I got in a fight it was one on one with several silenced shots to the head. I used stealth all the time through my playthrough. I found the conversations around JC's vision of the "first post-human civilization" to be fascinating but then again I like politics/government/sociology. I agree that there weren't any world shattering revelations but there were still a few twists. Agreed no sense of betrayal although I was running through all my notes to try to determine who the traitor was.

J1M, from the IS forums, claims to have finished the game in under 2.5 hours. Does anyone know what the minimum time anyone has done the original in?
