Hi all,
It's been forever since I posted here, but I've recently been contacted by several FM authors who asked me to do voice recording and since I was here I thought I just thought I'd drop in and say "hi" and "how the hell is everybody?".
I'm still alive and stirring up shit (as always). When I do turn on my PC (which isn't nearly as often as I used to, since I now work sitting at a computer all day... for some reason I'm not as inclined to log in when I get home - surprise!) I usually post whatever deranged, sarcastic or profane thing that pops int my head on (
https://www.facebook.com/msledd) facebook.
For those of you who don't know, we've even got a (
https://www.facebook.com/groups/nuthaus/) TTLG Nuthaus alumni group there. If you're on facebook, come and join us!
Toodles!

This is mostly a result of changes in FB's group functionality. Back when we formed it there was a "group chat" function which was quite active - then FB took that way :(
I should post more the in the general group area!

Is there a go-to place for TTLG live chat these days? Not that I have time for it, but curious. Does IRC even exist anymore?
I think we could do with a shoutout box on our page or somewhere for throw away live chats, unless people with more experience know why that's a bad idea. Be good to have a place I go to that's accessible but not in-your-face. (E.g., I couldn't deal with the FB chat alerts. It was better when I just had the msg window open. But FB PM system isn't very accessible sans the alerts either.)

It's pretty quiet but it's always there for a chat.

If only we had a place that we could control ourselves, that didn't sell our private interactions to the highest bidder! How cool would that be?

@dema: Building a chat on a webpage used to be a very bad idea™ until recently nodejs came along and (
http://socket.io/get-started/chat/) allowed for permanent client connections through websockets, instead of constantly polling the server, which would bring any server down.

Kolya, your inability to understand why people choose Facebook over other theoretical platforms is your own failing.
You'll note that #thief has been dead for years. And I wasn't one the early departures.

I take exception to that. Around a decade ago I have implemented Web applications whose use model is equivalent to chats with mixed-replace and a variant of delayed responses on persistent connections that was standardised as BOSH, no constant polling. It's astonishing how well the Node propaganda works.

whats astonishing is how shit facebook is compared to actually learning stuff that people write about what they know.
But on facebook you can just say some shit and no one is gonna call you out on it.
