I've officially been converted. Being in these forums for so long, it's hard not to start to take notice of the other games, but I had never got into DX since I bought it. I never bothered going past mission 2, until the other week.
I'd just set up my new PC, brought all the games up, and put in DX to make sure everything was good and proper. Pretty soon, I had cleared the 2nd mission and couldn't stop playing.
[spoilers up ahead]
I didn't get fully hooked though until I went onto the 747 to talk with/kill Lebedev. I began talking to him, Anna Navarre came in, but I continued talking. When she began shooting at him, my reflexes took over and I wheeled round and shot her up with the Assault Rifle I had conveniently equipped earlier :cheeky: Guess I must have some hidden killer instinct or something.
I was about to reload when Alex's message came on saying he was going to protect me. That was when I got hooked - practically anything was possible in the game. I think it's probably officially now one of the best games I've played.
In Paris now, and I intend to stop off for a chat with Jaime Reyes. God, I love playing through good plotted games the first time :joke:

Sometimes I wish I could delete my memory so I could enjoy it like I did the first time.
I remember the first run through I wanted to see if I could stay with Unatco but alsa the game doesnt have as much freedom as you'd like. I like to think of it as more of an interactive book where you can change some minor plot points.
And yes, it is THE best game ever. It mightn't have alot of replay value but I judge greatness by how good it was on the first run.
Oh, and welcome to the DX boards....where the fun never stops ;)

Yeah, I had assumed you'd have to leave UNATCO - too many plot points would be missed and it'd end up a different story - but I was still wanting to try killing Paul at the 747 on the second run through. Guess it was as impossible as I thought.
Still, the game's pretty revolutionary for me - the plot choices were done better than I've ever saw in other games, and more dramatically too. Most of my favourite games are surprisingly linear, but this gets my vote because of how well the choices were carried out. And that's without even going into some of the excellent gameplay features :p
Anyway, for now, I'm going back to find Jaime. I really want to know what's happening with him :cheeky:

I'm struggling to think of a game that has more.

This has already been mentioned in a different thread, but I would have liked it if UNATCO deemed your character untrustworthy or too much of a threat rather than forcing your character to make the choice of leaving. Sam Carter chooses to stay and you can ask Alex and Jaime to stay, and it seems like an important decision morality-wise. You also should have been able to accept Page's offer. I hate it when the plot seems to present a choice but the designers make the decision for you. I'd rather they didn't show me the lollipop if they just planned on yanking it away from my greedy fingers.

System Shock....Didn't have the impact of DX but with all those alternate play modes, with DX it's seems more ....superficial. Don't get me wrong, DX will be the game of games til something better comes along...not likely, but for replay, shock does have it.

Oh don't worry, I plan on doing a newbie diary, but between FreeSpace 2, Flash, school, and mostly Deus Ex, I rarely have much time to be on the net these days :p
Oh, and meanwhile, I'm just leaving the DuClare mansion and am loving the Icarus plot.

I've also just got into Deus Ex- just finished the Hong Kong missions. It's a brilliant game, with loads of detail and a gripping plot. I'm just sorry I didn't get into it sooner.. :p
This Daedalus character is interesting...seems like a sort of SHODAN, especially the way he/it talks to you ("You are no use to me dead" if I can remember right). Can't wait to find ou what happens next... :thumb:

Just too bad that they had to go for the one cliche that's in every game with RPG connections - waking up in prison with no equipment and escaping. :tsktsk: :sly:
Meanwhile, "Sticks and stones" is a great line :cheeky:
