The difference between your own imaginary misconceptions and the virtual reality world of THIEF, is the difference.
I sense reluctant contrition...and as a novice, I encourage you to appreciate the elders that surround you...For regardless of time, their knowledge will enlighten you, if that is what you seek.
I seek healthy discussion on a game I have sunk countless hours into, correct me if I'm mistaken but this is without argument the best place for that?
Whilst I think EM are misguided with certain design decisions, such as rope arrow hotspots and xp. On the whole the game has potential to be very good.
Will be the game be thief? I don't know, emulating game mechanics to the letter such as in the dark mod doesn't automatically reproduce the thief vibe for me personally. I don't think it would work if EM did the same. A large part of the thief vibe is going to be carried in the story and we have scant little information about that so far. Hopefully the story will be more coherent that thief 2, anyone wonder why karras didn't just release one servant in the forest?

Try and temper your psychotic rage, and play without the handicapped difficulty setting.
I don't feel like discussing my playstyle, but fighting WAS mechanic implemented in first Thiefs, no matter difficulty. Actually New Thief seems better in that regard, since Garrett won't even have lethal weapons, like sword or dagger (so I really hope there won't be any giant spiders in it  )
BTW you can still kill non-human enemies on expert difficulty, did you know that?

It is good to know, that true spirits and guardians of the THIEF experience, like Hamadriyad, protect and preserve the way.
Yep, I was right. It IS cult

Yeah, mechanists are lame and a rebel group against Baron is taffing original right?
Since when is Thief's plot original?
Rebelion against Baron is supposed to hide some deeper and darker threat so I'm gonna wait and see how it unfolds. The Dark Project was supposed to be a thieving game (with lot of shooting guards with fire arrows, apparently) but it turned out to be *sigh* yet-another-save-the-world-from-ancient-god/demon-thing, so why can't it be the same with new Thief?
Other than, you know,
of course

I only wonder why Garrett spend so much time trying to find out what he already knew

Yeah the plot motives did feel somewhat labored towards the end...

Unlike, NuThief...in which enhanced combat is a prominent part of the experience, as a bad-ass assassin...THIEF only provides inferior combat ability to the player as a last resort for failing to succeed at stealth.

With a bag full of fire arrows and mines, I can be a one shot one one kill zombie mauler.
With flashbombs, gas weapons, invisibility potions and a blackjack, I can take on the entire contingent of guards head on... With ease!
Lets not pretend the combat in thief is underpowered.

Really? Because from what I've seen player had to use superpower to miraculously defeat two guards... only to be killed by third one.
I mean come on, I got better results in Thief Gold! On my first play-through...
And devs are repeating ad nauseum that the game will be ghostable, which part of that sentence is so hard for you to comprehend?

I don't know, I got the impression that some of you are so absorbed by your own interpretation, that you totally forgot what the games actually is. It is entirely possible to fight your way through the first Thiefs - I know because I did exactly that on my first play-through - some missions even on expert difficulty. Saying that combat was "inferior" or "punished" shows nothing but how much you sucked at it.

As previously stated, insolent one...the handicapped difficulty allows for such conceptual infidelity...You reduce yourself by continuing down this unbecoming path.

You are such a foolish child, that it is laughable...From this point on, you will never be taken seriously on anything that you say.

You only confirmed my worries. You really should go back and actually PLAY this game, then you will know that there's no difficulty that prevents from killing zombies and knocking people out.
Until you do that I see no point in continuing this conversation.

No, the intent of the designers of the game allows for such conceptual infidelity. EM are doing the same. One can certainly argue they should make combat punishing, and I subscribe to that myself. But it wouldn't be keeping true to what's gone before.

You are a dim-witted fool, to think that killing non-human entities circumvents the viability of the stealth challenge.

EM are making combat part of the interactice experience, as a preferred option...rather than making combat a feared and reluctant option.
