The mission where youi rescue someone from their own mind (dream / nightmare) is great.
Also, the on where you rescue someone from an enchanted painting.
I never did get to do the dream mission, but I agree w/you.....the painter trapped in his painting is awesome.
Another REALLY great mission is
when you sleep on the boat/inn in The Imperial City's docks district.
:thumb:
Caught me totally by surprise.

I did a quest to get some chicks crystal ball in a boat. I ran through and got the crystal ball, gave it to her, but then the monsters that were following me came out and killed everyone around. SO I figured hell why not and looted the bodies. Well I happened to loot the crystal ball and the damn game won't let me drop it. I've got a permanent travelling companion!
Hey, the very same happened to me (atleast, the first part.) I was too low a level to defeat all those baddies, so I just ran in and grabbed it, then ran out. Not only did they kill most everyone, but
several villagers revealed themselves to be members of the Mythic Dawn when attacked. Probably saved me a few ambushes later.

For some reason, when I got arrested in a certain city (can't recall the name now) I would emerge from the barracks along with (
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/4541/oblivionmiscarcand5ox.jpg) this bad boy and two zombies. After the +6 guards that spawned to fight him back finished killing him (
http://img81.imageshack.us/img81/4336/oblivionguardfight8gs.jpg) they promptly began killing one another until there was only one remaining.
Funny thing is, the first time it happened I reloaded prior to getting arrested. Then 10 hours later in the game accidentally got arrested again and it still happened. Bizarre.

Spoilage:
It's a side quest. The boat gets stolen while you're asleep. When you wake up you're at sea, and you have to deal with pirates.
Ditto, that quest is a great one. I also like one of the later Dark Brotherhood quests in particular - the one with the family spread across Cyrodiil.
I didn't set off right away for the mother when I got the quest, but took a break in the Imperial City. Lo and behold, while sitting in the Bloated Float, I talk to a guy who turns out to be one of the sons! That was good. As well as that part, tyhe son who owns the inn was good too. I told him "Your mother bled like a pig and he tried to attack me, so an Imperial Guard slashed him up and then went back to drinking. That was good.

Paranoia
I can't help but wonder if there's actually a
good way to beat that quest.

exactly what i did. the guide book says to wait till the guard leaves, but that was incredibly easy.
