I recently purchased a Logitech G930 headset. It's a USB type headset which means it actually has a sound device built into it, instead of just piping through the onboard sound of my motherboard like a standard headset. I've noticed that Thief 1 and 2 give me only mono sound, and no stereo. When I go back to my old headset running off my onboard sound, it works fine once again.
I'm assuming this is just a driver problem with the G930 and I probably won't find a fix, but I'm hoping someone here might know of some tweaks to get stereo in Thief 1 and 2 working properly with certain sound devices. :) By the way, everything else works great with this headset (other games, music, etc. Only Thief games give me mono-only sound)
Thanks!

You get mono sound in thief 2 if you activate hardware acceleration without really having hardware acceleration. Maybe it's the same in thief 1 too. So deactivate it and stereo's back agian. :)

Thanks for responding! However I always have hardware sound unchecked and I don't get anything at all with it checked.

Hmm, strange. Which Operating System are you working with?
What else I could think of:
- change hardware acceleration ammount
- change speaker settings (if 7.1, then set it to stereo - just to try...)

I'm on Windows 7 64bit. The G930 headset is actually a 7.1 device, but unfortunately there are no settings to change the "speaker" configuration to 2.1 or headphones. The G930 has a stereo switch on it but it doesn't affect software at all, it's just a hardware downmixer so it would have no effect on Thief.

So if you go to Control Panel->Sound->Playback->Logitech G930->Configure you can only select 7.1?... Well, you could only try ALchemy (I can send you the dsound.dll file if it doesn't work with your headset). If that doesn't work either I'm out of ideas.
