Hi all. I got the european DX:IW version of the game (as I live in spain :P), and installed it on my laptop. I began to play but didn't manage to hear nothing: There was no sound in the whole game, only in the cinematics. there are no patches for the game, and I didn't have *any* problem with my sound card with any game since I got this computer..
well, I'm missing something?

Computer specifications?

Intel Centrino Duo 2ghz, 2 ghz RAM memory, Ati radeon mobilty x1400. The unic data I've managed to take from the audio card it's that it's from sygmatel (in the decive manager it's what appears under the "sound, videogames, etc" tab).
In addition, I am using Win XP media center edition.
Oh, in addittion: The first conversation you have (when activating the computer in your apartament) speed up and don't let me see anything (I use the computer, the woman appears, in a second my character, the woman again and the conversation ends. No subtitles, no "nothing"..)

That sounds more like the conversation audio files are missing than anything else.
Have you patched it with anything? A no-cd patch, or a texture upgrade for example? If you've got a no-cd patch you should install the full game before you apply it, not the minimal install (I forget if IW even has that option, but it sounds like this is what's happening).

Not sure if this will help, but I have a similar laptop and got no sound when I had installed Thief - Deadly Shadows (pretty much the same engine).
Turned out I had to turn off hardware mixing in the sound options menu. I don't remember if that's an option in DX:IW (don't have it installed right now), but if it is, maybe you could try that.
Another thing I've heard is that these games don't like dual core CPUs. I've played a little of Thief - Deadly Shadows with no problems, but others have reported that they've had to disable one core.
(of course, Jeshibu's comment may also be true)

well, thanks for the answers: I was using a no-cd patch, so I'm going to try something that way. DX2 don't have installation options (I mean, those refered to installation size), but maybe it's some kind of "stupid" problem with the files left in the dvd.
I'll try that stuff of the sound also ;). Besides the sound, I didn't had any problem with the game (it looked great in my computer).
(anyway, ñif nothing of this works, I'm going to return the game and take another copy, who knows..)
