Just got it today. Woot. Great game though the stealth is a little bitchy. Where's the damn lean button. Anyway, I just made it through Morroco scene 1 and 2 and just finished 3 but I'm concearned about my stealth rating. I kinda' used up all my acid and using the barette isn't all that easy either so I was thinking sniping my way through. Is that fine? Or will it severely wreck my stealth ratings with high body counts? I tried to keep them at a minumum back at the hotel but sometimes, I just have no idea how to avoid other than giving them a bullet in the head.

Sniping won't affect your stealth rating. What does affect, however, is if you 'get caught': someone raises an alarm, they spot you, find bodies or if you spook civvies. This ain't Thief and was never meant to be (despite what certain ppl over here claim) so you've more free hands to do what you want, provided you don't botch the job.
Minor spoiler:
There are some completely stealth parts where you absolutely must not get caught and also total shootouts you can't avoid either. Just a friendly warning, knowing you've heavy Thief background. There's no need to go uberstealth here becasue it's not always veen an option.
Yeah, NOLF has more than its share of scripted events, but they're generally entertaining.

That so huh Tomi? Thanks. Now I can relax a little and have some fun with the Carbine. :cheeky:

I can't remember if you can get the silenced pistol on the first run through (I know you can't get the silenced SMG, which is the answer to all anyone's troubles).
There is no lean it's true, and killing baddies is par for the course. But you will notice that the baddies do hear you and search once they do.
Footsteps alert them, so be quiet. A missed shot alerts them (er, I think), so be accurate. Screaming civvies can alert them, so keep your gun out of sight.
I can't remember if a silent shot will alert those nearby (who aren't shot). Seeing a body certainly does.
The most silent put down of the lot is the karate chop to the back of the neck, but that's a tough one.
Playing it pure Thief stealth is hard (nay impossible depending on the level). On the first run through it might prove more frustrating. Remember that secrecy is rarely a problem for the objectives and mainly makes life easier for you. If you blow it you can usually shoot your way out. The game is pretty explicit about when you can't.
(pretty obvious stuff I guess, but I thought I'd say it anyway)

Sneaking around isn't tough. Just use to creep "bug" like you do in Thief. Hold down crouch and tap the movement keys instead of holding it down. The enemies can't hear you. Geez, I didn't know you could chop them down for a KO. Thanks. Between, enemies won't be alerted to your presence even if you are touch them from behind.

I'm not sure when you'll find the silencer for your pistol but when you do it's a 'complusory' item when entering a level. The far best silenced weapon is the crossbow. It comes with a scope, it's completely silent and you can retrieve the arrows later. Karatechop is nice too, if you can make it close enough. I found the barret almost useless with it's poison capsule mode. Either it didn't affect at all or the victims made quite a lot of noise before going down.
Child of Karras on 24/8/2004 at 13:24
You've got to slash them on the head or it won't work. The noise level isn't that high really. Hmm... Don't you already have a silencer for the pistol? Isn't it one of the optional items to carry along?
tomi1kenobi on 24/8/2004 at 13:45
Meh, you're right. Forgot all about it, even though I used the silencer for the first time when the goons raided the room after the sniping stuff in the beginning. Or more like attempted sniping: couldn't shoot straight for cracking up all the time for the ambassador's ranting :cheeky: Hmm, all this talk about NOLF...probably have to play it again and try harder with the barrette this time :)

If you feel exploit-friendly I think you can turn body fade on and, um, totally defeat the purpose of having body remover. Yay!
I was most unstealthy. Well, except for:
The time my stuff got taken in the chateau and I was sneaking around as I had no guns. I found a coin and used it to lure out an AK-47 toting guard. As he wandered back to his post I walked up, yelled "JUDO CHOP!" and the assault rifle was mine, haha! Then I just shot everyone 'cos they deserved it for nicking my barette.
