Hey! Well, after hours and hours of fiddling around and looking at like 3 different forums on here and another [not so] random German tutorial on getting System Shock 2 installed on Vista (32 bit), I finally got it!!!:joke::cheeky:
Running it in
Windows 2000 compatibility mode seems to work the best, so I'm doing that, in case that affects anything I am about to say.
You see, the problem seems very basic, and you would think there was a basic solution as well. When I open System Shock 2, (I don't get the intro company name, etc. vids anymore, but that's not important at all), and begin playing, I cannot see any objects anywhere! I've never played this game, but I KNOW the levels cannot be so bland and lifeless...I mean...there's NOTHING there. When a box on the screen forms with four little white corners around a "pistol," for example, there's NO PISTOL! It's like that everywhere! All that is there is the level maps but NO 3D objects besides the terrain (map), the robot droids, and the other soldiers. I've only gone through the training stages so far.
What is going on? Can someone PLEASE help me??:o:D
Thanks! Here are some screenies:

I truly respect this game and its developers, and want to fully know why it is so respected and enjoyed, so please, please help me fix this problem.
Thank you very much!

Sounds like your file obj.crf is missing or corrupted.
Double-check that you have the file (it should be in the Res subfolder). If not, you may want to reinstall the game or copy that file manually from the CD. (You may want to do the crf-merge patch from the SS2Tool again afterwards if you choose to copy the file manually).

Yes, an obj folder will override obj.crf completely if it exists and you haven't patched up your game to move the .crf files into a Res folder.

I know, 'cause last time I did, (and tried to apply the enhanced graphics patch), the game wouldn't even launch.
EDIT: Never mind. I think I got it. I have yet to see whether the enhanced graphics mod did anything--the train and garbage cans at start look the same...thank you for all your help! I've seen many posts from you around these forums that are all extremely helpful. :)

After moving the files into the res folder you did edit install.cfg to reflect the new location of the crf files, right?

When you see the screen you would like to see, press "prt scrn." Then go to paint and press Ctrlv and save the image. Then you go to imageshack.us and upload the picture, and finally you copy the link for thumbnail and paste it in your post.

Thanks for that useful tip, Crazystars!
