today games has to be played once and thats it. the game industries doesnt want that their games played 10 years long... i think thats why they wont release modding tools.

Good point.
Skyrim is an exception here, because Bethesda made it their tradition to deliver a level editor on top of their game.

No. The reason game developers rarely release mod tools for their games anymore isn't because they see their audience as a bunch of cows they want to cynically milk for cash (Activision and EA aside), but because all the expensive middleware developers use these days makes it prohibitively expensive to do so.

That list means nothing as the global mod-making community is something of a self-congratulatory circlejerk.
Fixed.
To be fair, though, I really like seeing people do, er, creative things. Making mods for games gets an A+ in my book, I just have little interest in playing them in general. At the moment I think the only mods I have installed (and I have somewhere around 90 games installed between my perma-install and queue folders) are the ones for Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim/Fallout 3/Fallout New Vegas that serve as unofficial bug fixes (i.e. the Baldurdash ones for Oblivion) and the ones that integrate the DLC better (i.e. Delay DB Attacks, DelayDLC, etc). So I can understand the disappointment in not having any editing tools available, it just has no effect on my purchasing decisions as a consumer whatsoever.

The good FMs are the ones that keep it simple and keep it straightforward.
For the FM I had been working on, my intention was that the player had to 'think like a Thief' in order to progress. Certainly, there were lots of hidden little things (and even whole areas) to be found as a reward for those that wanted to examine every damn nook and cranny of the level, but finding those things were not essential to complete the level. What was essential, for me, was forcing the player to examine the area and logically figure out how to go forward using only what was right in front of him. No convoluted puzzles...no f***ing keyhunts...no magical bullshit (though there was a magic mushroom). If the player thought like a Thief, he'd succeed. If not, he'd fail--and I made sure that it was possible to utterly fail with several traps and some red herrings.
I wanted to make the kinda "game" I'd like to play, one that was very much easily played if the player took a few moments to really think about what's right in front of them and figure out how to use that too his advantage.
Too many FMs have way too many arbitrary puzzles; or are a labyrinth of dead ends until the player finds a hidden switch under a rock that opens a magic portal in the shrubbery, that then allows the player to hit another switch, which then reveals a note telling the player where a key is that opens a lockbox for another switch.... What twisted individual would even think that way?!

Oddly enough, I was certain that they had announced something to that effect months, if not years ago. In any case, I'm not terribly surprised.

True enough -- I don't know where Mr. Kadish (the guy behind Killing Floor before it went commercial) is these days but I presume someone shot him for being such a friggin' egomaniac. His idea of constructive criticism was to give him a blowjob and tell him how great his mod was.

If there will be no T4-ed, then what is (
http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html/?docId=1001928521) this? There's also a post about it on the official Twitter @Thief. Is it a contest using mod engines from
other games? If so, that's pretty stupid.
EDIT: Reading it more....wait a minute, it IS for other games. They even plug the Dark Mod! Can they do that?
EDIT 2: oh, just saw the other thread. Carry on. :p

I do admit there are some truly quality FMs.
They're not from Central or Eastern Europe, though.
The Bathory Campaign, HELLO?! One of THE best FMs out there isn't good in your opinion?! Are you high?!
