I dont think there is any merrit to the size left on the DVD argument. Both Tribunal and Bloodmoon came out on seperate CDs long before the game of the year edition was packaged for the Xbox. We do not know for certain that Bethsoft is bound to produce duplicate content for the Xbox 360, and even if so, there are many measures that could provide the content (IE, the Xbox download system, multiple disks, dual layer disks, HD disks, memory cards, repackage opimization, etc.) Why is it not possible to download an expansion pack when users are already doing it via the plugins? they can make an entire land mass a plugin if they wanted and add new guilds, quests, etc all in a nice downloadable package for 19.99. Im not in favor of this, but it can easily be done and the method is already proven. Bloodmoon was in an entirely different local as was Tribunal and both proved that if history is our factbase, that Oblivion could be linked to another province/town/city as an expansion.
My only real concern at this point is that the downloadable content be provided on CD/DVD for folks who are download weary or who simply want a more permanent form of storage for their money. The downloads are starting to look better and the prices are going up. If you bundle them all together you will spend less than $15.00 after taxes (US) and are more or less what some expansion packs have offered in other games. It wont quite equal the content of Bloodmoon, but its more than other games have offered and for less price. Personally I want a new land like the past 2 Morrowind Expansions. But I'm happy so far to see them still developing.

Just saw this tiny tidbit on the official forums:
"We have no plans to make an expansion for oblivion. Should that change we'll make an annoucement on Elder Scrolls.com."
- Michelle Burgess, Bethesda Softworks

Yeah, no plans means just that: no plans. But i still can't help feeling pessimistic. I have 0 interest in the 15-20 minute minigames they're selling.

Except they can't. When Microsoft released the version of the 360 without the HDD, everyone was afraid that it just wouldn't play a lot of games because they would require a hard drive- but Microsoft promised that every game would run on the version without the hard drive because developers were instructed to design games with the non-HDD 360 in mind.
So yeah, much as I hate to jump on the Microsoft-hating bandwagon, they kind of fucked that one up.
Just cause i didnt see this posted, the above is not true.
Final Fanasy XI for Xbox 360 is HDD required. There is no stipulation saying that all 360 games
have to run without a hard drive. Just like PS2.

Which I think was exactly Aerothorn's point - Microsoft had originally implied that there would be such a stipulation.

I got the impression that Aerothron was trying to imply that MS fucke dup because they wouldant allow a game release that was HDD required. Meanign that Bethesda couldnt release an expansion if it was HDD required.. Guess the only way to knwo would be to ask him though :)

Meh, maybe. Still doesn't change the fact that Bethesda have confirmed there are no plans for such an expansion :(
Rylan on 21/8/2006 at 16:54
meh, plans change too frequently.. the game has only been out for like 6 months or so.. you never know.

In a day where corporate boldface lying is considered status quo, I wouldnt put too much stock into "no plans". I'm not accusing Bethsoft of anything here, but too many companies emphatically deny claims only to announce them months or in some cases days later. I'm still very hopeful. Its not quite Xmas. I'm looking for something around Novemberish. Like I said before, there are too many carefully drawn out regions connecting to the landmass in Oblivion for them not to do anything with them. They even provide the history of each in the collectors edition manual. I could see them fill each one with expansions before looking to a true sequel.

Plus, it's just like I've said before: It makes no sense, financially, not to release an expansion. Morrowind had two expansions and they did EXTREMELY well. Not only that, but their success spurred Bethesda into releasing a whole new GOTY edition for the XBox (which is no small feat.)
There's a lot of money to be made in expansions. The production cost is significantly lower since you don't need to change any engines or anything, and only a handful of new meshes and textures are needed. And you're still selling the thing for $30.
