Because all we hear about gun laws from the UK is : BAN, BAN, BAN.
I think farmers are still allowed guns to defend their livestock.
Also, JT "I'm bringing panic back" seems to be confused about a number of things. Personally, if I had a psychotic hatred of some art form and wanted to destroy it utterly, I would at least do some research so that I knew what I was up against. Apparently the hero of "Counter Strike Half Life" wears black, and therefore inspired this shooter.
Opps, I think I got the name of that murser simulator wrong. It's actually called

How about the death rate due to gun crime being a justification?
Maybe because it wouldn't affect it. Or maybe it would only displace the problem; if guns are banned, then gun crime goes down, but cold weapons crime goes up, etc.
It also should be considered that many Americans consider their guns so highly that, if a ban would be made into law, you'd have to pry their guns from their cold, dead hands. It's that bad.
It appears to me that the american society has violence problems, unrelated to the availability of guns. Removing guns from the equation won't remove that violence. Consider Switzerland : they have guns in every house, yet, gun crime is low. Why? Most probably not because burglars are afraid, but probably because the Swiss have less violent tendencies. You know the old cliché : guns don't kill people, people kill people.
To me, this is a societal problem more than a gun problem; banning guns won't change a thing, it'll just move the problem to something less spectacular. Like knife crime.

Hi! I'm a criminal! I live in America! All guns have been
banned by the United States government, under the Nanny administration! But don't worry! They banned knocking over a liquor store and that never stopped me! Now grab your Tec-9 and your ski mask, 'cuz we've got some laws to ignore!

tl;dr version:
Gun control doesn't work because criminals, well, they don't really mind breaking the law so much. Making firearms illegal only hurts the people who follow the law.
SubJeff on 20/2/2008 at 00:21
Incorrect. Possession of an illegal firearm in the UK carries a mandatory sentence and of course the supply of firearms is restricted. This makes it harder for criminals to obtain them and acts as a deterrent. Yes, there will always be someone who wants or gets a gun. It's the scale of the issue that you need to address.

Just because having a gun is illegal doesn't mean criminals, who are already outside the law, aren't going to have them. Which is the point I tried to make above.
According to (
http://www.nationmaster.com/graph/cri_tot_cri_percap-crime-total-crimes-per-capita) this, UK's total crime rate per 1000 people is actually
greater than that of the United States. And we
don't have horribly restrictive gun laws. Just stupid ones.

I'd still rather get shot than knifed. Have you seen a knifing victim after the fact? Yeah I'll take a neat .375-inch hole over being slashed down to the bone in several places.

A Flower in Hell might be able to answer this, but I've been wondering lately how easy it is to ignite the gunpowder in regular ammo if they just floating around. I've heard stories of unexploded ammunition being detonated with large taps made to the bottom of the casing. When you think about it, the hammer in the gun just hits the bottom of it anyway to detonate the gun power. Here is where my knowledge would be a little fuzzy. Would it be technically possible to discharge the round by dropping it the right way? I'm thinking that it probably isn't, or accidents would be a hell of a lot more common.
Well, you can still buy surplus ammunition that was manufactured back in World War II, and it still works safely.
In any case, if you were to strike the primer of a modern centerfire cartridge outside the weapon's chamber, not a whole lot would really happen. Without the rigid walls of the chamber, the pressures generated would cause the case to bulge, gun gases to escape the breach and the powder to burn slowly (or not at all). No explosion other than the primer's deflagration would really take place, and the bullet would likely just fall out onto the ground.
Contrary to what the news media and Hollywood wants you to think, guns simply do not just
go off. All guns sold in the United States have to pass a "drop test" to ensure that the gun will not inadvertently discharge if dropped by accident with a round chambered. Firearms manipulate powerful and dangerous physical and chemical forces; the engineers who designed them would not be so lax.
There are no accidental discharges, only negligent ones.

Aha ha. Yes I've seen knife and gunshot victims and much closer than you I'll wager. You really think that bullet holes are neat? I suggest you go read about it. Hint: it looks nice on the outside but it's a horrible, horrible mess on the inside.
Who cares about crime rate dethtoll? I never said gun laws were related to crime rate.
Shootings on the other hand...

I refuse to let fearmongering and feel-good legislation ruin my fun, or change my mind. Every one of us lives in a world that has a hundred thousand ways to kill us in any number of gruesome ways. Removing one won't really make me feel any safer, and will directly affect me by eliminating one of the few sports I have some natural talent for.
It'd actually be nice to see a lot of these kind of "protecting the stupid from themselves" laws removed. The gene pool could use a bit of chlorine from time to time.
