Never. Are you one of those people who think that mankind will actually stop killing each other one day?
I was thinking that more restrictive gun laws might be an idea was all.

The other side of the coin is that violent crime where the perps were armed with guns as a whole, these crazies who flip out and shoot up schools or shopping malls are REALLY on the low end of the spectrum.
For every one psycho thirteen year old who kills his teachers and classmates there are thousands of robbery-related murders, drug-related murders, gang shootings, organized crime hits, gunfights with police. The "normal" crime can and is severely depressed by the presence of armed citizens.
If you don't count the terrorism, Israel's rate of violent crime is VERY low, and they've got teenage girls walking around with M4 carbines slung across their backsides.
I always thought we should criminalize concealed carry and
require open carry everywhere for anyone who wishes to go armed. That way, the good citizens who happened to be armed would be in plain view of other citizens and law enforcement personnel, while only bad guys would seek to conceal their weapons. Also the presence of so much naked steel might prove to be a powerful deterrent for those who seek to do us ill!
There are actually a few places in the country that are like this, or were (they may have changed recently).
Edit: The best case against firearms bans/heavy regulation is that criminals, by definition, do not care about the law, and in fact seek to break it, therefore will not be deterred by stronger gun laws. Strengthening gun control will only make it harder for ordinary folks, and make life a lot easier for criminals who know their potential victims are far less likely to be armed.

Heinlein said it best: "An armed society is a polite society."
This has more to do with the mindset and psychology that come with responsible weapon ownership than the likelihood of getting shot in an altercation.
Edit:The schools where these shootings are taking place are "gun-free zones" as far as personal/concealed carry goes.

This.
I don't know how many of you have ever used guns before; they have been a significant part of my life, and I can tell you that learning to use and care for them has imparted a degree of discipline and perhaps even wisdom similar to what one might find within more traditional martial arts.
It's a heavy responsibility to have the power to instantly end a life. It's a fact that taking responsibility on your own shoulders can help you grow as a person.
