Politically, (outside of religious interference) the left seems to favor emotion over reason, while the right favors reason over emotion. Like anything else moderation is key, but of the two I'd say it's definitely hardest to reign in emotion.

Well I'd be the first to admit that I'm no less emo than your average twentysomething female, but I do appreciate logic to a higher degree than most of my girl friends do.
Politics to me seems like it should be the business of the practical, and it's really disgusting to see how impractical our elected officials act. My political beliefs are steeped in pragmatism without regard for feel-good legislation.

Reason sure has driven the direction of this country over the past seven years.

The current administration are hardly true conservatives in the traditional sense of the word. They give lip service to "conservative values" like family and religion but seem rather Democrat-like in their pursuit for strong central government and government spending.

Some traditional conservatives (if I recall correctly, Burke is a good example) believed that the emerging classical liberal politics of their day were dominated by cold reason and lacked sufficient emotion. Idealism versus pragmatism is an especially poor basis for a left/right divide, as politics is naturally idealistic (everyone has some idea of what their perfect world would be like) and politicians are necessarily pragmatic (it's almost impossible to make any progress toward that perfect world without compromising on some ideals or issues).

Like how it's hard to see the people through all the wads of waving money?
Also Scots is barking up the wrong tree. The one she likes to climb has no nuts if I recall correctly.

I'd also add that the Republican party has not been outside of religious interference for a long time. Ayn Rand addressed this very issue in the 60's with her infamous (
