A lady cop? In your automoBILE? Did she say get out and spread your legs, did she try to cop a feel?
dethtoll - you living in crappy neighbourhood is your problem. Move. It shouldn't bias you ideas about gun laws for your entire country when gun crime is so bad at the moment.

If he lives in such a terrible neighborhood, he has every reason to be against extremely strict gun control- namely, that he will be unarmed. Why shouldn't the area in which he lives affect his views?

I don't know about him in particular but this isn't really an option for a lot of people.

That's a
brilliant idea! Why didn't I fucking think of that?! Gee, it all seems so simple now. To solve my problem, I should
move!
Oh wait. We already thought of that.
Well. Give me $10,000 US and I'd be happy to move somewhere better just so you could have the satisfaction of being right for once. Because without your donation in the name of TELLING IT LIKE IT IS we're not going anywhere.

There is no way I would stay in a neighbourhood that was so bad I felt I needed to arm myself with a gun, that's all.
Why do you feel so threatened where you live? Is is people on the street, people breaking into cars, the amount of violence on the street? Where is this exactly anyway?
My point about guns, though, was that someones anecdotal bad experience with police not being helpful shouldn't form the basis for a country wide gun culture.

Aside from people successfully breaking into my house on at least two occasions, another time where a guy who was running from the cops hid in our basement, the drunk guy trying to break in, the occasional theft from cars (and on at several occasions in the past year, theft of a car, the time we were renting out the upstairs (it's a 2 family home) and someone broke into the upstairs and cleaned. The place. Out. et cetera not to mention the fact that the drug dealing in the adjacent neighborhood has spilled over into this one plus the numerous shady characters who walk up and down our street at all hours of the night so on and so forth and the police do nothing- do you think that maybe, just maybe, if I could POSSIBLY have moved,
I WOULD HAVE FUCKING DONE SO ALREADY?
jesus christ you are thick
And you know what? It's not just here. It's everywhere, and it's only gotten worse with each new stupid restriction they come up with. Maybe I'd like to be able to defend my home with something more than a baseball bat and a kitchen knife.
I don't know, I've never been to England but from what you say it's like apparently they made crime illegal so nobody does it anymore. Well it's a different fucking situation here. We can't take your Nanny State bullshit and try to apply it to the United States. Let me tell you something. In the 1950s it used to be safe to walk the streets at night. In the 1950s, it used to be safe to go for a stroll in the cities. You didn't have to worry about getting mugged, carjacked, raped, murdered, just because you happened to have to go through a seedy neighborhood.
What changed? They instituted gun laws in 1968. Combine that with an increasingly disenfranchised society, falling property values, law enforcement's inability to cope, and a massive influx of drugs, new and old, the business concerning which ended up creating even more crime, and bam, crime rate goes up by over 110%.
So you can take your self-righteous, pig-headed, I-gave-up-all-my-civil-rights-years-ago-why-haven't-you, Nanny State "guns r bad mkay" BULLSHIT and stuff all that in a bottle and SHOVE IT UP WHERE THE SUN DOESN'T SHINE AND WALK AROUND IN A FIELD LIKE THAT.
I've had it up to here with you. It's like talking to DaveW. Incidentally he's British too. I hope to God you two aren't representative of the entire population of England but I don't have a positive outlook.
SubJeff on 21/2/2008 at 22:57
Why does this always turn into a civil rights issue? I don't want a gun and I don't need one. Guns ARE bad simply because of the destructive power they have. Of course there is crime in the UK, but we have less death by gunshot wound here per head of population than you.
june gloom on 21/2/2008 at 23:07
You want destructive power, give me some beans and I'll fucking show you destructive power. You going to ban beans now? HUH? HUH??
Personally, I'd rather have a few gang-bangers shoot each other every now and then than have to worry about getting stabbed every time I fucking go outside. Just because YOU don't want a gun, which is moot because you live in a police state anyway and you HAVE to buy into the fucking system, doesn't mean that I, living in America, should HAVE to do without a gun even if I really wanted one.
PROTIP: Whether or not something is a civil rights issue is not dependant on your opinion.
