I'm surprised this thread stayed dead for so long.
So who got what?
I wasn't planning on buying one, but my original Xbox died a little while back and my wife has been on my case to get a new one. She was dying to play SSX 3 and my son wanted to play the original Sonic games. Microsoft originally predicted the Xbox Series S/X shortage would end in March but it remains. Purchasing the Series X is nearly impossible without the help of bots. But I was able to order a Series S from Walmart at their last restock. No 4K, but you get a lot of gaming power for $299 now.

I'm still on the lookout for a PS5.
I'm mainly following a Finnish gaming forum where they inform about the occasional new batch of consoles coming to stores. But these batches have been small and snapped up by faster buyers right away. *sigh* At this rate I'll probably get the vaccine before I can get a PS5, and then I'll be able to go OUTSIDE and BE HAPPY and have NO NEED FOR GAMES! IS THAT WHAT YOU WANT SONY? HUH????

If the PS5 had been broadly available last Christmas, I might've got one, and I'm sure I would've got into some of the games released for it, but as it is now, I find that I've barely played on my PS4 over the last few weeks. This'll change again, I'm sure, but I now think that if I'll get a PS5, it'll be a year or two after its release (provided they're actually available at that time :p ).

If you want new games, neither is really worth buying. All MS first party come day 1 to PC, Sony 1st party will come to PC later. ((
https://archive.ph/fHPdN) Days Gone and a “whole slate” of PlayStation games are coming to PC)
I can see some value in Xbox, thanks to their backward compatibility. Emulation of Xbox consoles is largely barely functional. The best way to play Ninja Gaiden Black and uncensored Ninja Gaiden 2 is to get a Xbox.

That's why I got it.
But you're right, if you already have an Xbox One, there aren't any big launch titles to make it worth buying, except (sort of) CP2077. Same for PS4 owners. The real selling point is 4K HDR I guess.

I've got a RTX 3080 for that. Only like a dozen or less games from like 2017/2018 that had HDR on console lack it on PC, eg Forza Horizon 3. (Then there's the very rare newer game that lacks it, like Mafia 1 Definitive Edition remake.)
MS is bringing over the Xb Series' "auto HDR" feature to Windows 10. It's already in dev builds.
(
https://archive.ph/TB3Ww#selection-237.0-237.63) HDR support is coming to over 1,000 games in new Windows update

I finally managed to order a PS5, and it arrived today! :D
I tried Astro's Playroom, and that RUMBLE SHIT is indeed on a WHOLE NOTHA LEVEL!
I picked up a half-price boxed PS4 copy of Cyberpunk 2077 and that'll be my big inagural PS5 game, but I'm also looking forward to getting back to Subnautica and Snowrunner. As well as re-visiting The Last Guardian and No Man's Sky.

The PS5/Xb Series upgrade isn't out yet. What you'll be playing ATM is just the PS4 version via BC.

Yeah I know, but from what I've seen it already plays smoothly on PS5 and looks great! Good enough for me.
