No-one appears to have mentioned this yet, but a couple of days ago NIN released a rather long album of 36 tracks called (
http://ghosts.nin.com/main/home) Ghosts I-IV I suspect any NIN fans will know about it.
We know Trent Reznor is no fan of the music industry, so he's one-upped Radiohead in the dowload release stakes by posting a free torrent of the first part of the collection (check the pirate bay), you pay $5 for a full download in the format of your choice (mp3/FLAC/Apple Lossless), and more for increasingly luxurious packages. The $75 option includes the multitrack recordings on a data DVD for remixers.
Interesting strategy, and it seems to have had a big response such that their servers slowed to a crawl shortly after release.
So far I think the music is pretty interesting too. Apparently it was largely improvised, and it ranges from desolate ambient colours to agressive industrial rock. This is probably normal though, as I've not heard anything other than
Pretty Hate Machine...
Any other thoughts?

The other I walked into a music store and bought everything they had on NIN.
Oh yes I love Year Zero and the remix album, is like a new birth for NIN.

I'll check it out but only because I like most of his stuff. The last album was pretty poor imho, pretty damn poor. I hope this isn't going in that direction.
Also scumble wat is wrong with you get some other stuff I recommend at least Downward Spiral.

Yeah, I didn't think much of Year Zero either, Loved With Teeth though. Just started the torrent for part I.

I'm downloading the first part now, and I'm gonna get it when it comes out on CD

I thought his plan for distributing this was pretty smart, until I read (
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/03/04/reznor_gift_spurned/) this now I'm just thinking of how much the internet sucks sometimes.
I lost track of Reznor with Year Zero, and this whole thing is instrumental which makes me wary. Hopefully it'll show some growth.

Hated With Teeth, Year Zero was pretty much meh, but I'll give this one a try, based on this:

desolate ambient colours
If it's anything like the Quake soundtrack, I'm sold. I always liked NIN's instrumentals, Pilgrimage is quite possibly my favourite track on The Fragile.

Trent is awesome at instrumentals. My favorites include the quake soundtrack, pilgrimage, at the heart of it all, and just like you imagined.
I'm not a huge fan anymore, but I might check this new one out. I think I skipped getting Year Zero legitimately, and I haven't listened to it either.
If you're interested in NIN, scumble, personally I think the best stage was 94 to 96. Particular recommendations are The Downward Spiral, Closer To God, Broken, Fixed, and The Fragile. I don't know the year, but Things Falling Apart is a bunch of bsides from The Fragile. Probably one of the best NIN releases ever.
Obviously number one is the Quake soundtrack, which was '96 I believe.

I got this yesterday, liking it a lot.

I just haven't got round to it yet. I only started to appreciate Reznor when I discovered my wife just happened to have a copy tucked away somewhere. I didn't realise there was such an electronic influence and was quite surprised at what i was hearing.
I don't like Reznor's voice a great deal, so I'm quite pleased to be hearing a whole album of instrumentals ;) I think the sound of an oldish upright piano adds a lot to the compositions so far. Makes me think NIN should have done the STALKER soundtrack...
