Were all the missions in DX1 and DX2 set in the nighttime? I can't remember exactly but I don't recall an outdoor area in either one of the two games.
Just curious... :bored:

There were plenty of outdoor areas.

There were no daytime missions during DX: the Unreal engine it uses does not mimic daylight well, at all.
There were also no real daytime missions during IW (though it appeared to be morning/evening from the windows of the Cairo arcology, even if leaving the arcology returned conditions to 'dark + BLUE'): the IW engine doesn't really handle...well, "lighting in general" terribly well.

Interesting. People didn't seem to think that when it was used for... you know...
Unreal.

True, but then they really didn't have much to compare it to:
Firstly, it's the first unreal game, so that cuts down on comparators, plus: if the entire game is packed with 'sorta outside in canyons at maybe sometime in the afternoon with liberal overuse of zonelighting*', you get used to it.
Deus ex makes such a point of presenting atmospheric night-time levels where clever use of individual lightsources really adds to the effect: transitioning from 'near dusk' vandenburg to..say, 'a canyon at maybe sometime in the afternoon with liberal overuse of zonelighting' would be jarring, to say the least.
*Given the limitations of the engine, Unreal contains a staggering amount of crazy brushwork and lighting.

It might be my dodgy memory, but wasn't the sun just coming up when you assaulted the missile silo near the end of Deus Ex?
DDL on 8/10/2008 at 22:11
That or just going down (given that the area outside A51 is pretty dark too).
