So I have been giving the Night Falcon a second attempt. I had hoped with a better machine and NewDark (1.23) would allow me to get past the crashes and savegame instablitity of the Monastery Mission. While the mission still had this problem with my savegame, replaying the mission (actually the whole campiagn) from the start resulted in no problems. I carried on through the fourth mission easily enough and played through part of the fifth mission.
Unfortunately, anytime I go down into the crypts and encounter the haunts, the game wants to eventually crash (within several minutes of running around) and now my quicksave (which was loading) just crashes on load. In fact, loading it up in dromed (via edit_load_game) also results in a crash. The hard save before I entered the crypt loads fine without error.
The error that I am getting from Dromed with the quick save is "Assertion Failure: Dynamic array resize failed".
What might cause this?
If I could get some clue what the source is within the crypts; I'll happily load_game delete objects and save_game to remove the offending objects from my good save and carry on the mission as normal.
The mission is the one where you must go below the Hammer Temple into its crypts to retrieve the magical stone from the mysterious tower nearby. The haunts inside are thiefy-like (like the shadow assassins intended for Thief 2 Gold) and they have a particle shroud around their heads.

1. post the exact crash message and crash dumps saved by windows.
2. post your monolog at the time of the crash.
3. post your thief2.log and all your cfg files.
With luck someone will come by and be willing to help you debug things. But you have to give us the data do so.

Patch your Dromed.exe and Thief2.exe via EnableLAA.exe. You can find it in main NewDark archive. Put it in Thief folder and just drag Dromed/Thief2.exe to this utility. Then a message appears indicating that the operation was successful.

In this case, enableLAA won't help. The FM doesn't take much RAM.
Please upload a savegame (as soon as you go down the crypts).
Maybe it can be helpful to increase the settings in dark.cfg
like this
Quote:
; object counts
obj_min -18192
obj_max 8184
max_refs 47740

I would like to hear the answer from the top-starter first. I solved a similar problem in this way.
Anyway, it will be useful for the future. ;)

I guess it's the DEDX vampires.

EnableLAA did not work. Changing the object settings did not work either.
How do I post anything? I can't upload attachments.
Edit: Oh great. That's right, edit_load_game/edit_save_game doesn't work in new dark because it screws up the doors and portals. Blackness in doorways, crashing with lockpicking. So I can't even delete the haunts and test if that fixes it without replaying half the mission.

Those commands work fine in NewDark, I use them all the time.

Any ideas why edit_load_game causes open doorways to add a black plane?
Edit: Oh thank goodness. I tafferpatched to the latest and that fixed this issue. I think part of the problem may have been the game was 1.23 while dromed was actually 1.22. How that happened, I have no idea.
Let me check to see if the crash is still there.
Edit 2: Of course the crash still occurs. UGH!
Edit 3: And deleting the Haunts, Spider Haunt, and the Vampire Bats within the savegame did not fix the problem.

You can upload the file to something like mediafire and then post the download link here.
