That's not a news show but entertainment using some current political events and figures as an inspiration. So no, I'm not worried this is a premonition of anything.
That being said I could imagine news presenters being animated in future. Or the weather girl. Since they don't have so many action sequences they could even invest a bit into better animations. Celebs could license their early-twenties appearance out, so Deborah Harry would read the news. You gotta love technology. ♥♥♥

It's sad that media believes there's a need to somehow make the news fun (or use some gimmick to stimulate our already overly-stimulated senses) for people to watch in the first place. In doing so, they remove any sense of humanity.
"A busload of Indonesian children plummeted over the side of a cliff today, while carrying loads of love ladened Hallmark cards to the local nunnery. Let's go to our Man In The Funny Hat™ who'll reenact the screams of terror through pantomime."
*some dink silently screaming and pretending to be trapped in a box*
"And in weather today..."
Didn't they learn anything from Cronkite?

Where do you get the idea that they're doing anything like that? It seems like it's something akin to The Daily Show, and it's just as entertaining really. China did something original. Miracles
can happen!

Ok the clips I linked to were some of the funnier, more lighthearted ones but on their site they do cover a wide range of topics, including weightier topics like (
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20YbeGTpoLw) the Haiti earthquake. It is being presented as a geniune news show rather than just an entertainment show.

That's just the news I'd like to see.

But I may not be too far off-base. In some recent, and somewhat shocking, polls it's found that more people trust Jon Stewart and the Daily Show than traditional news outlets. Now, if you're a traditional news outlet and are losing viewers and credibility to a comedian, what would you do? Funny Hat Man™ here we come!

In the land of lead-based children's toys, killer pet food, death-squads protecting the local flora from any sort of reputable collection (because the black marketers that send plants across the global without any inspection and control, thus spreading disease and destructive bugs for which there are no natural predators in these said areas, need to operate without the hindrances of those with good intentions) before mass-industrialization completely wipes out entire species, and free-flowing toxins for all, I guess anything is possible. Hallelujah.

This kind of xenophobia is so rote, insipid, and poisonous that it could be manufactured in China.

So... am I the only one here who doesn't understand chinese?

There's other things I'd worry about first, such as the fact that they frequently fail to get basic facts about news stories right.
