Disputing Butterfly Effect's inclusion on that list right here right now.
I must admit, I was surprised to see it on there but I really can't remember anything about the movie.

This reminds me that I still haven't seen Battlefield Earth. I got to get on that.
P.S. Recently someone (I think my father) asked me why John Travolta and Robin Williams kept doing such bad movies. I was like "Because when they do good movies nobody watches them!" I mean, how many people saw A Love Song for Bobby Long? 8?
Tonamel on 3/12/2009 at 00:46
Nobody watched Pulp Fiction or Mrs. Doubtfire?

I did. It was an interesting movie.
A Civil Action is another pretty damn good Travolta movie.

I clicked the link to read the article, but then I saw that it's A.V. Club so I didn't bother.

What y'all talking about,
The Butterfly Effect is the perfect illustration of the multiplier effect when it comes to media violence: one stab is horrible, a thousand becomes hilarious. That thing had a bunch of us wincing at the start and rolling in the aisles by the end. Ashton Kutcher + Drama = hilarious all by itself anyway.
re: the article. I dispute that
Boat Trip or
Glitter are at all amusing.
(what's wrong with the AV club, incidentally? Tobias and Rabin in particular are generally excellent. Further incidentals: (
http://www.avclub.com/articles/my-year-of-flops-case-file-49-rhinestone,14714/) this article discusses a little about Sly's enormous writing credits.
Rocky, in many ways is merely the "one good book in everyone" aphorism moved to screenplays. Emphasis on "one" and "good", no particular comment on how many bad. I think it was
Cobra where his input became quite legendary)

Plus The Butterfly Effect gave us 'fuckbag.'

It's fucking Peepeestorm expressing dislike.
I'm reading their rather debatable top 50 of the decade list right now. Some bold choices, some overly safe choices and a surprising top 2. One or two glaring omissions also.
hopper on 3/12/2009 at 09:52
What does "overly safe choice" mean when dicussing the best films of the decade? Are there films that are so obviously good it's kind of corny to include them, or what?
Scots Taffer on 3/12/2009 at 10:07
Some would say critical darlings like There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men are relatively safe choices for a top 5, whereas straight genre pics may never sweep the awards but can very often be among the best movies of their respective year.
Case in point: no Bourne movies or Bond movies on the list, but Casino Royale is definitely in my top 50.
