urgh, deleted the file - don't use, it's outdated, TFix 1.14 is all you need.
as for the AIs, no known way to modify their behavior.

I'm having trouble with a papyrus map.
I'm picking the papyrus, when I pressed "Use" button,
the papyrus dissapear from my inventory,
but I can't see the map in the game.
Am I the only to have this problem with NewDark 1.19 ? (I didn't test the bug with 1.21)
You can easily test it in "Returning a Favor" (T1 FM) :
Enter the secret door in the sewer, enter the first door on your left.
Go to the priest in jail, he will give you the papyrus map.
check whether you have convict.osm in your Thief folder.
and don't double post.

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but is it possible with NewDark through Tafferpatcher or not to have dynamic gamma? Dynamic gamma was in the DDFix and is the only feature I'm missing since moving on to NewDark (because it's taffin' marvellous!).
Right now I'm enjoying Metal Age again, with gamma +- bound to the mousewheel for convenience, but I'd like to avoid needing to manually adjust it all the time. I guess for now I can chalk it up to Garrett's mechanical eye having a kind of manual night vision ever since the Trickster incident.
Dynamic gamma in DDFix more or less functioned like HDR lighting in Half-Life 2 and newer games; in dark areas your gamma increases to make it easier to see your surroundings, akin to one's eyes adjusting to the darkness, and in bright areas the gamma is reduced since you are blinded by the lights.
The magnitude of dynamic gamma adjustment was user configurable in the bottom of ddfix.ini and I liked having it at a moderate setting, since it allowed me to not worry about adjusting the gamma manually all the time if playing at daytime. And it was pretty cool to see Garrett's eyes slowly adjusting to the dark.
So yeah, is something like this possible with NewDark or will it have to be a feature request for later versions? I tried adding in DDFix again but since you need a patched .exe file and it is mutually exclusive with NewDark I quickly gave up on that idea. Unless someone has another idea or alternative of course.

I've changed the file convict.osm with a recent one, and it works !
I didn't know there was several version of this file.
Sorry for double post.

I'd like to know that also! I didn't even know DDfix used to have it. Anyway it would be so cool, I might even consider downgrading to DDfix for it if it's not possible in NewDark ;p

We may need a lite version of enbseries or something new for the features missing in NewDark, like dynamic gamma. I miss that as well.
well with olddark it was possible(ok i managed it once) to get sweetfx running by using the enb directx8 to 9 thing
and newdark seems to use directx9 so it should be possible to get sweetfx and enb working
but none of these have dynamic gamma qq

I registered for these forums (I don't think I've seen stronger security measures anywhere else) just to say thank you. I'm sure you'll be getting a lot of traffic from the steam community because there are posts under T2 and maybe others... but they probably will just lurk, DL, and leave. But I wanted to say thanks.
Short story... I was coming out of thief gold (which i enjoyed, although the fixes i put on it made my computer crash a lot on any cinematic) and moving on to T2 because I liked the original, and have heard it's a great game. I got SS2 because I heard it was also a must play (which I will be playing after T2 =) )
I'll preface the rest of this with a simple fact... I don't have a lot of time to research things. I have tremendous respect for the people that are making it so that people like me who don't really have a dedicated pc for retro games can play these games, I really love you guys, and I mean no disrespect.
That being said... soon as I went to start T2 I was saying to myself "well I'm going to need to bring this game up to speed and DL some stuff" so I researched and ended up here. I see a lot of downloads and subsequent patches. I admittedly DO read readmes, so I'll probably answer my own questions, but I have a humble suggestion.
I simply don't have the time to figure some things out on my own. It sounds like a cop out but I'm a very busy person (Took me months to actually finish thief gold (and not because i suck) and as I said, I have the utmost respect to you guys, people like you let me play Deus Ex Machina which is now probably my fave pc game). There's a lot of mod jargon thrown out on these forums and I don't understand the majority of it. new dark, old dark, ddfix, dromed, etc. Anywho.... my humble suggestion is editing question info into the OP to avoid unnecessary questions. I'm more than happy to test these myself but I know some people won't and they will ask over and over, hence the suggestion.
-do you have to apply the patches in order (1.19 > 1.20 > etc) or can you just apply the most recent?
-there will probably be people looking for what I'm looking for: the best of the updates without detracting from the original game experience
-do you need to install any other mods besides those provided in the OP to get your game working properly?
To be blunt, there's two reasons I registered, one was to say thanks, the second was I read the first few pages and the community here seemed good and I thought I might not get crucified for making this post. Thanks for reading.

All you really need is (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131106) Tafferpatcher - it will either install or update T2 to the current version of New Dark, which is 1.21. It also will allow you to (optionally) install some enhancements/patches/fixes to the game, you can pick and choose which ones you want. I recommend installing everything that Tafferpatcher offers, but that's just my personal taste. You should be able to easily search the forums here for anything that shows up in the options list to get more info on it.
In short, Tafferpatcher is basically an all-in-one install program that should give you everything you need.

Hi kongmingtwo, welcome to the forums. The Thief sub-forums of TTLG are pretty friendly, but I think in general the forums can be hostile, especially to people who don't read. Fair warning, always do a search before posting a new thread. Not only is it good to get in the habit of doing, it cuts down on clutter to be honest, and you will avoid the wrath of the regulars.:p
Anyway, about Thief. I highly recommend checking out (
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131106) Tafferpatcher, especially for you since you don't have a lot of time.
Tafferpatcher is a sort of installer that asks you what mods to install and has NewDark as one of those mods. Also, it's recommended to install thief using tafferpatcher rather than trying to use it on an existing install, but that probably isn't a big issue. I haven't had a lot of experience with it, but you can ask for help if you need it in the tafferpatcher thread.
edit: crap, how did brethren get in there so fast? Sorry, didn't see his post.
