I'm 99% sure this is an intel driver issue. try adjusting gamma via the gpu control panel.

The admin thing is perhaps because you have it under a Program Files directory. Try moving it under something like C:\Games\Thief 2 or similar.

Thanks guys - I've just re-installed the game into its own folder in the C directory.
So an Intel driver issue? Crap. I notice there's a gamma setting in one of the .cfg files - dark.cfg? Anyway it was something like 0.8999 something. Will changing that do anything?

it's cam.cfg. try lowering that value, but if using the slider didn't help, I doubt this will. and yeah, intel's inability to produce a working graphics driver for the last 10 years or so is simply amazing.

Well, heck, time to look into video cards, something I haven't done in 5+ years.

if your pc is a desktop that can be upgraded, and you have the money to spare, this is actually not a bad idea - quite a few apps are able to benefit from a better gpu, and your life wil be much easier if you play games now and then. intel's gpus are simply not meant for gaming, not even half serious.

Yeah, it is - it was built for me, ca. 2006; I upped the mobo and CPU myself earlier this year - Intel i3. I still have the same power supply, though, which might be an issue.

you can go for some card that does not require extra power - the hd7750 should be enough for casual gaming, it only draws power from the pci-e slot, it's not that exensive ($100), has a nice cost/performance ratio, and is miles ahead of any intel integrated gpu. note: make sure to look for the 1GB DDR5 version, NOT the 2GB DDR3 version.

Okay, I'm new to Thief 2 1.19. Can someone answer these questions:
Does it work? Does it work well enough that I can run Thief fan missions with Darkloader? Should I upgrade right now from 1.18 to 1.19? Or should I wait a bit before trying it?
