Ah, excellent. Just one question.
First step 1) make sure the game is not installed in program files or some other protected windows folder.
How do I do this if steam automatically downloads and installs the game into the steam folder in program files C drive. Is there a way I could temporarily move it?

There are a lot of steam game files from other games I don't really want to muck around with and delete or move around and place back. I think it's probably easier and safer to just edit the the .cfg and .ini files in the V1.19 patch. Couldn't someone just upload a downloadable replacement file and tell me where to place these new files? Assuming the edit is something extremely simple if you know what you're doing.

I do not recommend messing with the files at all where Steam puts them. Instead, once they are where Steam puts them (C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\thief_2 and C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\thief_gold are the common locations) You can copy them to new, more desirable locations and use tafferpatcher to make sure that the T2 folder is patched to 1.18 correctly & then apply the 1.19 patch. And for TG you can then just use TFix to get it all set up using 1.19. You don't need to use Steam to run them. Just make some new shortcuts to the patched versions and you are off and sneaking!

This patch is so fantastic! 32bit graphics makes such a huge difference, its awesome.
Did anyone manage to get surround sound working? I use the Club3d Theatron Agrippa wich is connected to my AV receiver and delivers 5.1 DolbyDigital/dts in all games that use OpenAL or HW sound, exept for the Thief games. I now can use EAX for the first time tho, wich sounds very nice and I wish to be able to listen to that in surround mode. Iam on Windows 7 x64.
Thanks!

Another question: Can someone confirm that the Ultimate Difficulty mod is still working correctly for T1 & T2? The zombies still walk faster but the guards dont seem to be as hard as I rember them to be with this mod. I havent played the game for a year or so, so maybe Iam imagining this.

it's just a custom gamesys, so it should work. but it will, of course, break any Thief install that uses custom gamesys, like the one in TFix, for example.

Yes it seems to work as intended, Iam just better at the game :)
What exactly is TFix changing in the gamesys file? Iam using both together, is that not good?

if you overwrite the TFix gamesys with the ultimate difficulty one, you will lose all gamesys tweaks and fixes that are in the TFix gamesys. this can cause various issues, like things not displaying correctly, and maybe even a crash if you are (un)lucky enough. I would not recommend doing this, but it's up to you, of course.
