Ok, so the game runs fine, but I have absolutely no use of the keyboard in the game. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04. The mouse works great though. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Nevermind. 'Emulate Virtual Desktop' fixed the issue.

My Items like "Sword" have a strange Arabic or Farsi looking language after the patch of T2. The scroll and book text is English as usual. The New T2 Demo has the same issue. I did not try to patch T1 or TG and the HUD is in English. I did need to download and install the newest June 2010 DirectX to fix that D3DX9_43.dll error. What could I try to fix this.
something similar has happend when I tried it out on one of my old geforce cards. are you using some old hardware/drivers by any chance? try commenting out (adding
; before)
use_d3d_display in cam_ext.cfg (this will disable DX9).

delurking: HOLY CRAP!
Thank you, whoever is responsible for this! I'd pretty much given up playing recently, it was just too much fiddling to get it all to work right.

Has anyone gotten OpenAL + EAX working properly?
Whenever I try enabling Hardware OpenAL in the main menu, EAX gets greyed out, even though I can get it working using ALchemy etc. The thief.log gives me the following readout:
Quote:
OpenAL Init...
: OpenAL32.dll: 6.14.357.25
: wrap_oal.dll: 2.2.0.7
: Default device: SB X-Fi Audio [0001]

: found 2 unvalidated device(s)
: Opening user defined OpenAL device "SB X-Fi Audio [0001]"...
: Device 0 (default)
: name : SB X-Fi Audio [0001]
: version : 1.1
: version str: OpenAL version 1.1
: vendor : Creative Labs Inc.
: renderer : SB X-Fi Audio [0001]
: 3D sources : 112

: EFX : 1
: EAX2 : 1

: EAX4 : 0
: EAX5 : 0
: occlusion : 1
: XRAM : 1
: Opened device 'SB X-Fi Audio [0001]'
: EAX reverb support enabled
: occlusion support enabled
However, the actual reverb and occlusion effects do not play in-game. It's worth noting that most of Thief's sounds have reverbs and echos etc. as part of the original sound files already - so obviously I still get some effects, but the EAX-specific stuff is not audible at all when compared to using ALchemy.
EDIT: Derp, figured it out. Even though Thief only uses around EAX 2 or so, I still have to enable Game Mode on my X-Fi to get Hardware OpenAL working. However I am still not hearing most of the EAX effects, or at least, they are much more subtle than when using ALchemy.
Also, I am pretty sure the "mouse speed no longer changes based on resolution" line in the change log is not correct, because mouse speed most certainly did change when I changed resolution. I also still do not have 1:1 control using widescreen resolutions, vertical is still way faster than horizontal, just like ddfix.

What you're hearing through openal is correct. Directsound eax never translated well to openal efx.

Fantastic/monumental work and HUGE HUGE Thank You to the authors: You rock :)!!
I've found 1 bug/incompatibility so far in my very time-limited testing so here's my little bug report:
Tried it with the full games: T2+T2X, T1+TG, SS2 (and they all seem to work fine judging from very short testing) AND with official game ~demos~ (2 TDP demos - Bafford and Assassins, TG demo (Thieves' Guild), SS2 demo, and T2 demo - "Uninvited Guest"), and all demos work except the last one: T2 demo - "Uninvited Guest" (which is the famous LOTP in full game). The patch seems incompatible with that demo - symptoms incluse frozen AIs on the level (they just stand like in this picture [ (
http://imgur.com/502mK) ] - and can't be k.o'ed or killed) and game crashes to desktop when frobbing objects like crates etc. Vanilla/ddfixed version works fine (AI is fine, no crashes).
I hope patch authors read this and could kindly look into it, as all other ~official~ demos work. (I tried with and without dark1 command in cam_ext.cfg - no luck).
Maybe anyone knows any way to unfreeze these AIs, or what could be the cause?

confirming. the readme states your Thief2 needs to be patched to 1.18, and the T2 demo is some special build, somewhere on the road between T1 and T2 if I remember correctly, so if the 1.18 is a requirement, then you (we) are out of luck.

Are you sure? I'm barely hearing any effects at all, if at all. Just tested in System Shock 2 for instance - hit wall with wrench, EAX on or off, no reverb or echo. Hit wall with wrench when ALchemy OpenAL is on, there is an obvious reverb effect.
