Hi,
I have not played any recent FMs lately. Have been playing older ones. I received help here a couple of years ago to install patches so T1 and T2 would run on newer computers. I have a 6 core Windows 7. Got that fixed, and have been having fun. After stopping for many months, I decided last night to play a new one. I downloaded Behind Closed Doors, and the link said that I need Newdark. It said that it would patch the game to run on newer hardware. I thought well great, I already have that. So I loaded the mission and it crashed. I am using Garretloader version 1.41. If I install Newdark, will it change what I have so it will be worse? Will it adversely affect T2? I just don't want to run Newdark, and then not be able to play Thief 2. I am also wondering.....if my Thief 2 runs on "newer hardware" now, why did it crash? Was it because I don't have Newdark or possibly for some other reason? Older FMs run with no problem.
BTW, just as an FYI, the last time I got FMs, they were on a CD (or was it a DVD?) sent to me by Komag, if that helps.

New Dark is updated every so often. You should download the newest version of Tafferpatcher and make sure your Thief install is up-to-date. More recent FMs will require later versions of New Dark. It shouldn't affect Thief 2 adversely in anyway (if anything, it will make it run better).
Also, Garretloader is ancient and not supported anymore, you'll want to use either FMSel or NewDarkLoader for loading missions these days.

Thank you. I appreciate it. It is said that the only constant is change. Must be true. I didn't know about this FMsel and NewDarkLoader. I guess I need to come here more often. It has been a great while. Well, thank you for that info.

I am stumped. In searching, I found the link to download NewDarkLoader, and its instructions, which say:
1. Extract NewDarkLoader.dll, SevenZipSharp.dll and NAudio.dll to your Thief2 folder (or Thief, or Shock2, or Thief3\System). English.ini is optional - see the end of section 2 for details.
The file 7z.dll should already be in the destination folder, but is included just in case you don't already have it
2. Open up cam_mod.ini with any text editor.
(For Thief 3, it's SneakyOptions.ini)
Remove the ; from the line that reads ;fm
If you have already been using FMSel, this will not be necessary
On any other line, type in this, or copy and paste from here:
fm_selector NewDarkLoader.dll
(For Thief 3, change ExternalSelector=... from FMSel.dll to NewDarkLoader.dll)
I extracted the zipped file, and put the files into the TG, T2 and T3 folders. I am having trouble with step 2 above. I can not find cam_mod.ini. I even did a Windows search, and it was not found. It was not found in the zipped file either.
I guess I will try FMSel instead. If someone can tell me what I did wrong, I would appreciate it.

Have you applied the NewDark patch to TG and T2?

A couple of years ago, I applied various patches (I think Tfix or something like that was one of them). For TG. I also applied a patch for T2. I could not get Thief to run on my new computer. I have a Windows 7 6 core 64 bit. I came here, and got instructions to run various patches, which worked like a charm. But the NewDark patch does not sound familiar. I will search for info on that. Thank you very much.

You need to update everything to the latest NewDark version for any of this to work. The cam_mod.ini file is a NewDark file. I would recommend using TFix for T1/G and Tafferpatcher for T2.

Wow! You are so helpful and have so much insight. LOL! <-that is my sarcasm font. Not understanding is NOT the same as forgetting. Shows how much YOU know, Zylon

I think he's referring to the fact that you said "the New Dark patch does not sound familiar" when you had just mentioned it, several times, in a post only one day before that. It did sound kind of odd.
