Are admins able to purge threads altogether or are they only able to close them?

Administrators (and moderators) are able to completely delete posts and threads from a forum. However, it may be the case that such posts/threads are actually moved to a closed, invisible forum, in case the content needs to be viewed later for some other reason.

Except that mods can't post announcements.

:erm: Okay, perhaps I was confused by mod powers in Open Bulletin Board and its
member hierarchy settings...
BUT, you still can't ban nick/IPs, so your powers ain't so God-like. ;)
