Hello all, I just purchased Morrowind a few days ago and I am kinda bewildered by all of the information the game puts forth and had a few random questions:
1). How much slower are minor skills at raising than my major? I also have played a few games where "minor" skills by end game are somewhat useless, is the the case with Morrowind? Also, would some skills actually be better suited for minor rather than major and visa versa? For example, would something like Enchantment and Illusion be worthwhile to have as minor skills? Also, what about armor, would only having something like Light Armor or a weapon skill as a minor skill be functionable, or would it need to be major to be effective?
2). Which leads me to my next question: can you make a defucnt character that could not complete the game? or can all chars finish the game no matter what skills they are spec'd in.
3). I am also thinking of starting up a Nightblade, but the skills seem to be somewhat repetative -- has anyone played on for a long while, how effective do you find them? Like having both Destruction Magic and Marksman skills? -- I figure you will never be effectively using both, hehe. And sneak vs. camo/invis?
4). I really like the idea as having "The Serpent" as my sign, and from what I can tell the DOT does about 90 damage on a target and about 30 to myself, but since i'm so low (still level 1) I wouldn't dare use it in combat and I have no idea if it's even an effective DOT and how useful people have found it comparatively later on in game? The book did say they were the the most blessed and cursed. :p
5). Also a witch hunter seems pretty fun, but i'm kinda confused as to why they would be so effective against things like vampires and such?
Lol, that is all I can think of right now.
Thanks a ton for your time folks, :D

1.) The Minor Skillsrise considerably slower than the major skills nd start lower, your major skillswill be the ones you will depend nt he most but you'll use everything at some poit nothin becomes useless ules yo go to jail a lot an lose all of a ability.
2.) The game isn't allt hat diffcult but it isn't sweet caesif yo don't be careful, any charachter you can possibly make should pull a game win, not with horrendous amount even in the most difficut charachters (in terms of default races and classes). The only way to screw youself is to kill one ofike 10 characterthat will prevent you from advancing the main plot, and going to jail so much yu have absoluley no abilities... but unless your Tuco looking for challenge till Dragons invade the islnd that's not a problem.
3.) All the classe tend to fend well for themselves, and about Dstruction andMarksman, it's nice to know you cn switch to theother if you do'tlike te other without to much advancment handicap.
4.) The Serpentis the only sign tha gives more bad than good... the game isn't FFT so you won't be to botheed by the difficulty it adds, sometimes for every advantage you shougive youself a isadavantage, for challenge sakes.
5.) Again... all the classes really do ischooe which skils are neede to level up ad a e nuber cruynching, but you can adavnce all sklls, bt Major Skills will be the ones you end u using the most due to the sheer power of them.

excellent! thanks a ton bud.
I think i'm going to make a custom char, a mix between a whichhunter and a thief I think.
Tinker:
Major:
Sneak
Security
Marksmanship
Enchantment
Alchemy
Minor:
Shortblade
Block
Light Armor
Mysticism
Armorer
I know this may not be the most powerful char ever, but it should be fun being a craftsman - or, err... I hope.
Suggestions?!
Peace,
Grey

Hmmm, if I were you, I'd definately dump the armorer, and, depending on how you want to role-play, dump the block. IMHO, armorer is crap. You can make so much money that paying to have your equipment fixed is nothing. Traditionally, mages don't use shields (hence no block). But depending on how you want to play your character, block is a good way to level up fast.
I'd seriously consider putting some kind of offensive magic in there, too. Destruction is nice, but conjuration is cool too (bound stuff and summoning minions). Blowing up stuff with magic is really fun.

Aye, I think you are right. I was playing around with the skill last night, and I was not that impressed. :)
