Thanks to Amazon.com, and Santa, now have Arx Fatalis. Remenicient of Ultima Underworld series.
Problem #1. Cursor jerks around at about 2 jerks/sec. Using lowest setting. 1.15 patch installed. System is 533/133 PIII, 256M RAM, Voodoo 3 video w/16M. Is system just too antiquated to play this, or am I setting it up wrong?
Problem #2. Opening screen has what appears to be my inventory belt, a book, and I'm in a pitch dark room. What aam I supposed to do next?

The back of the box lists the minimum specs as:
P3-500
16Mb DX8 compatible graphics card
I suspect the Voodoo3 is not DX8 compatible - it's too old, isn't it?
Not sure what the P3 533/133 means, which may tell you I'm not the Ultimate Hardware Expert. :) But your troubles seem to be hardware-related; the game isn't displaying the 3D world for you at all.

As far as mouse movement is concerned, Viper6, have you tried turning on Mouse Smoothing in the options?

Hello Twisty,
"The Ritual" is still one of the best FM's ever made.
533/133 is the 533 PIII "EB" processor that runs the front side bus at 133Mhz. Graphics card is Voodoo III, 3000 with 16m video ram. It is a couple of years old. Voodoo's were THE boards to use before 3dFx went belly up. Have a VooDoo 5 w/64m I haven't installed yet.
System is within minimum spec's required but this cursor jerking around has me stumped. No adjustment seems to affect it. Fix? G-Force nVidia board instead of Voodoo? What are you all using?
Thanks.

GeForce 3 here, no troubles....
I've a strong suspicion that your trouble is the Voodoo graphics cards. 3DFx died before DirectX 8 was on the drawing board, so they may work fine with DX8 and yet not be DX8 compatible for calls made by the program.
I suspect that why you don't see anything when the game starts.
But, of course, I've been wrong before. :)

But then, perhaps you've been right before also.
Which is why I asked. Anyone else having problems with VooDoo video boards? Fix via configuration? Fix via replacement?
Thanks,
V6

Viper,
Have you tried using the Omega Drivers for your card ?
Apparently they support DirectX 8.
