quoted for motherfucking truth
I'm over-withholding and with state and federal taxes I lose about 30% of my paycheck.
Taxes aren't really that bad here.

They are when you consider our ancestors went to war against Britain over a 1% taxation rate (among other things). Income taxes are bullshit, especially judging by the way the government has been using my tax dollars as of late.

Yes, all those roads, schools, pensions and police officers really do strike one as an epic waste of tax revenue.

Mostly because they forbade the colonies from printing their own money which would always give them the possibility of independence.

Income taxes are-
Probably an annoying but necessary burden for a functioning society. The alternatives don't sound especially pleasant.

Yeah but try finding even a shitty emergency room in those days, especially since you have to slog through all the garbage and human shit everyone tosses in the street because there's no garbage services or sewage treatment plants (or sewers, etc etc)
Obviously people should be careful about who they elect but even your precious libertarians probably won't do much to lower your taxes. (Not that that has to be a deal breaker)

Anyways, I was leaning more towards Huckabee, then he dropped, then I was all out for Ron Paul, then he dropped...
Huh. The most noticeable correlation between Huckabee and Ron Paul is that their pots are visibly cracked.

So it used to say on Obama's website that he will support organic farming, but it did not say how. Now it does not even mention it on his website. It's hard to believe that he cares about the environment, but will not even do anything about things that are extremely harmful to it (of course no candidates that have a chance at becoming president do either).
Edit: Blah, blah, blah, renewable energy. First of all, there is no such thing as true renewable energy. Windmills do not get made out of thin air. Neither do solar panels. Second, what about when there is no where to build more windmills, or put any more solar panels? Yes, this is a lot better than nuclear or fossil fuels. I just think that something really obvious is how dumb using pesticides is.

Are herbicides and pesticides really the biggest threat to our natural environment? I don't see it.
The irony, of course, is that the one thing that could realistically limit harm to the environment without decimating our food production (genetically modified disease and pest-resistant crops) is being fought tooth and nail by the same sodding hippies who don't like chemicals.

The American desert alone is sufficiently vast to accommodate the country's entire energy needs through solar. Actually, half a percent of the world's deserts is all we need to (
http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2006/nov/27/renewableenergy.environment) provide energy to every person on the planet. The EU is (
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2008/jul/23/solarpower.windpower1) already doing this, 2 years after I was raving about it to all and sundry, but better late than never I suppose.
