Scots, unless you're hanging around with rugby league players, it seems that swine flu is totally two weeks ago.

I'M NOT YOUR PAL, BUDDY! dammit, ercles. And Stitch.
(
http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f213/Fafhrd42/New%20York%20Photogasm/Friday%20Afternoon/) Friday Afternoon
So apparently it fucking rains in New York in June. And not just summer in London constant drizzle sort of rain, but full on god damn pouring.
Having arisen too late to join the Family Scots and Stitch in touristy activities, I left my hotel room at around 10:45 and returned to the diner in which I had breakfast Thursday, only to arrive too late for breakfast, and was forced to settle for a pretty decent turkey club and fries.
As it had been decided previously that, in the event of not doing stuff together first thing in the morning, everyone should meet at the Brooklyn Promenade at around 12:30. So to the Brooklyn Bridge I go. And yeah, it's fucking raining. Not to be put off by rain, I (being a genius) decide to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge anyway, only to receive a text from Stitch when I'm halfway across that the Brooklyn Bridge is off due to the weather, and we were all to meet back at base (Scots and Stitch's hotel). (
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f213/Fafhrd42/New%20York%20Photogasm/Friday%20Afternoon/DSC_0030.jpg) The Statue of Liberty, from the Brooklyn Bridge through my 500mm lens, in the pouring rain. (there was dust on my CCD that I couldn't remove, on account of rain).
So after returning to base, Scots's in-laws were met, lunch was had, and we proceeded to (
http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f213/Fafhrd42/New%20York%20Photogasm/Friday%20Afternoon/Museum/?start=all) The Natural History Museum. Where we killed the rest of the afternoon. Apologies for the blurriness of a great many of those pics, they didn't look nearly so blurry on the camera LCD, and it's my fault for attempting flashless low-light photography while still slightly hung over. I also feel silly for not really taking any pictures with our people in them (except the stegosaurus skeleton, which contains: RBJ, Scots's in-laws, and you can just make out Scots Daughter's face and parts of Scots Wife). Special mention must be made of the Dong Room.
Post Museum: Hotels were returned to, clothes were changed, and we proceeded to RBJ's pad (sans Scots Mother-in-Law and Scots Daughter). No Pics, but suffice to say a fair amount of whisky was drunk. I, foolishly, attempted a glass of cask strength Macallan without watering it down, and almost finished it before deciding maybe some water wouldn't be so bad, and then another glass of cask strength something I can't remember the name of. Both of those on top of a glass of absinthe. We then left RBJ's and went to (
http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f213/Fafhrd42/New%20York%20Photogasm/Friday%20Evening/Charleston/) Charleston. Much more drink was drunk, Scots somehow got a free pizza, (
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f213/Fafhrd42/New%20York%20Photogasm/Friday%20Evening/Charleston/DSC_0091.jpg) Sctots' sistet in-law commented on how photogenic I was (totally wanted me), and for some reason the DJ was on a massive late 50's kick. They also had one of the more harrowing Men's Rooms of this trip. We then went to Cyn Lounge, and quickly abandoned it (despite Ghostbusters just starting) as Scots and Co. had to call it a night.
Thus began the Friday Late Show with Stitch and the Push-up Girls at (
http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f213/Fafhrd42/New%20York%20Photogasm/Friday%20Evening/The%20Belmont/) The Belmont. I vaguely recall the bartender being pretty cute. Also getting a fistbump from the DJ for asking for Squirrel Nut Zippers (which she didn't have. I wanted The Ghost of Stephen Foster, dammit.) 119 was kind of a blur. I remember not sticking around long enough to get the game of pool that I wanted, and then being at my hotel.
Next: Saturday, or: Fuck, that wasn't just a dream.
[edit]You may note the lack of
me in any these pictures. I'm hoping Scots'll have some (it was either the Lady Scots or her sister's camera that was much more active than mine at Charleston).

This thread makes me miss New York more and more. Not to mention cursing the powers that be where I work who all took the week you guys were in New York to take their holidays so I had to stay in the office.
Glad you liked it Scots - now you know how it pains me that my chance to move there last year slipped by me...and I'd even picked out a flat in the Tribeca/Soho area I wanted to move into.
:weird:

Don't say I didn't warn you that you need to dilute a (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cask_strength) cask strength. And that second one would be a 20 y.o. cask strength Talisker, bottle #2095 of the 2002 American release. Probably my favorite whisky currently open in my bar.

I didn't take my camera out at night but I got a few shots during the days. I'm just home and trying to get my head around some massive jetlag.
