My New Year's resolution is to spend less time in "Rip Off Britain".
So I'll see you all in a fortnight when I get back from Tenerife :D

I've only recently gotten over a big bluff that got pulled on me in our last real poker game, because my gut instincts told me that it was a bluff, as I was putting him on pocket aces or kings and the fact that an ace hit the turn and he had no change in demeanour at all, I took it to mean that the ace was meaningless to him - so he didn't have aces and he couldn't have kings because he bet out the same amount again afterwards without hesitation. If he didn't have aces or kings, I had him beat because all he had left is a bluff, but he pushed all-in and I second-guessed myself out of calling with a pair of Queens.
I have a weakness for matching people who go all-in because I hate being bullied. Plus my friends often try to buy their way out of trouble.
Have you ever noticed just how true beginners luck is? Taught a friend to play this weekend and in one game he had a straight flush, 2 full house and 4 kings. Guy's sitting with the full house Aces and Jacks and is checking his ass off. Basically only stole the blinds, how frustrating.

Resolutions:
Get over New Orleans. It's done & gone. Move on.
Stop comparing everything to "the way things used to be back in N.O."
Make more time to visit with Mom & Dad and the in-laws.
Hook up with some local organizations & start doing volunteer work again.
Organize all our boxes of crap in the garage and get rid of unnecessary stuff.
Get out of the house a couple days a week instead of sitting at my PC all day.
I guess that's about it.

1. Get a Thom story [website] together
2. Get a couple more publications in place and sort out funding for the rest of my PhD
3. Finally finish and put out (however pointlessly) the first Conelrad "album"
4. Drink less, eat better and swim more
5. Sort out a backup plan for if my PhD goes tits-up, which they so often do.

To drink less and smile more! Also, regain some of my hair from all the stress of last year. Time for a hair transplant! ;)

Yer busted, Fingernail!
I am resolved to be a bulwark against old-hattage and been-doneisms wherever they rear their hydra like heads.

To somehow, through some miraculous exhibition of pure, inexhaustible, masochistic will, force myself trudgingly through another 365 days of the same perpetually tortuous and sickening assault on my very soul, laughably known as my despicably loathsome life....
....and maintain my cheery, positive attitude. :)
