Hi taffers, i just ordered a new videocard. new videocard is Asus En8500GT Silent with 512MB. My old one was an Ati x1650 series with 256MB. (could be more i dont remember.) But i was wondering if it is a good choice, cuz now i have ordered it and i have a bad feeling about it. cuz i read the revies etc, and the 8500gt didnt do well? any taffers here with the same card?

8500 GT was and is a good card. Especially when it comes to the Thief games, seeing how recent ATi generations don't work well with DDfix.

hmm nice to hear that, its certainly better then my old x1650 ati card. At least thats a good point, any ideas on how well it will perform with Armed Assault, crysis, assassins creed etc. the new games

Well, my 7900 GTX can play Crysis smoothly (though lag spikes appear from time to time) on medium settings @ 1280 x 1024. Your 8500 GT will perform somewhat better than that I imagine.

thank you very much, now i have to wait untill they dispatch my order. :thumb:

I'm sorry to say this but 8500GT is a low end card which only selling value is its DirectX 10 support. It will run Thief fine but newer demanding games like Oblivion, Crysis and Stalker will run it dry very quickly. If you are aiming for 8000 series card, get 8800GT. Their price is dropping all the time.

hmm well i ordered it allready, seems that everyone has different experience with the 8500gt card. Anyway, pluspoint is that it is still better then my old card.

Hi there
Unfortunately the only benefit you will gain from the 8500GT(16 cores) is that it supports Directx10, as its the same or slower than the X1650 you already have. don't be fooled by the amount of memory a card has, just because a card has double the amoutn of memory dosent mean its going to be faster.
For around the same money you could have the following cards in order or descending performance:-
nVidia9600GSO (64 cores) £60-70
9600GT (32 cores, faster clocks) £50-60
8600GT (32 cores) £40-50
ATiHD3870 (320 cores, faster clocks) £60-75
HD3850 (320 cores) £50-65
HD3650 (120 cores) £40-50
Ati cores aren't as efficient as nVidia cores hence 4:1 ratio. And dont forget you will NEED ddfix to run Thief 2 on these cards.

:thumb: i am back. i have cancelled my order for the card, now i want to choose between the :
-Saphire ATI HD3850 512mb.
or
-Sapphire ATI HD3870 512 mb
or
- ASUS EN8600GT Silent/HTDP/512M
or
-POV GeForce 9600GT,512M
SO which one should i choose, they are all in the same range. startin from 95euros to 120 euros. Any suggestions on this one?
Edit: btw i forgot my system specs, are these cards compatible with my system?
Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe (chipset nForce570SLI)

None of the above, ive just looked via google/nl and you can get a 8800GT that will blow away all of the cards above and the cards I mentioned previously..
(
http://www.komplett.nl/k/ki.aspx?sku=347458)
8800GT - 112cores, 256bit, 512MB
9600GSO - 96cores, 256bit, 512MB
9600GT - 64cores, 128-192bit, 256-512MB
The HD3870 is only as fast as the 9600GT @ upto 1680*1050, both of which are in turn slower than the 8800GT. The 8xxx/9xxx nVidia cards are more compatible with Thief//DDfix than the 3xxx ati cards.. but should you not be able to find a 8800GT cheap enough then go for the 9600.
