I don't think that abysmal will ever make it to the DS.
Abysmal is just not optimized for this kind of hardware, especially for this low amount of available memory. Abysmal also heavily relies on floating point and vertex arrays.. I don't know if any of this is available on the DS.
Just curious, does the DS support OpenGL ES 1.0? Or is it some form of bastardized OpenGL? Or just something that looks like OpenGL but isn't?

No floating point unfortunately, but it does have hardware for manipulating matricies and vertices. It does also support vertex lists.
Pretty much the ultimate technical reference I found (
http://nocash.emubase.de/gbatek.htm) is here but there are friendlier introductions elsewhere.
I don't think it's implementation of OpenGL is wholly compliant with any version of OpenGL - but it has enough equivalents to make it easy enough to follow. The libnds library provides a few functions that help bridge the gap - although many functions have dummy parameters.

yes I've been following the project quite closely and it's very promising . I was merely restoring the balance for iphone-not-havers :D
I wonder why there aren't more people interested in an engine port of System Shock 1, why TSSHP is dead, why no one (competent enough) is offering help for your project. Maybe there's really only a handful of us who have a love for the game that goes far beyond what can be seen for SS2 or BS.
Anyway, thank you for your dedicated work.
Or no-one knows the project exists. I only just found out about it through sheer chance. Most searches for "Underworld remake" just find links to descriptions of past, failed projects.
If I have some spare time I might help out, but I'm really busy at the moment.
Edit: if I can manage to compile and run it without crashing anyhow. :P

Yes publicity is certainly a problem... Maybe it's time to inform some of the few ultima news sites...
Btw: I was able to double the performance on the iPhone... From 30 fps to about 55-60 fps.

damn I can't wait to play Underworld on my ipod touch! when can we get a release? :D
also eddy, I work developing iPhone games as a graphic artist, so if you need any help let me know:)

Don't know if you guys still need help... but I program in C#, C++, Delphi, VB, MUMPS, whatever...
I work for the NFL, so things are a little crazy these next couple of weeks leading up to and including the Combine, but if I can help in any way, let me know... otherwise let me know when it's done so I can download it!!! hah...
