Been playing Morrowind for like 8 hours straight or something.
I'm a wood elf named Lothaar Humbug :) I steal stuff. I started out by picking mushrooms in the forest and selling them. Then I took a silt strider to Baloma (?) and joined a helluva lot of guilds. (the thieves' guild is where my heart is though)
I stole a lot of stuff in Bolaloma (??) and did some quests but then I got bored and headed for the mountains with my backpack full of stuff. I killed some animals but the vampire-men scared me so I was relieved when I found Caldera. I broke into a house in Caldera and moved in there. I have an ancient tomb in my basement.
This is a beautiful game (the water, my god, the water!) and I love how there are seemingly no boundaries - you can just walk right out into nowhere and wont come across any invisible walls (well, I haven't, yet). But, IMO, the biggest problem with this game is the NPCs. They're so.... dead. They all say kinda the same things and if you can't barter with them, there's really no use even bothering to talk with 'em. They're always at the same places too and they don't sleep or do stuff. That's too bad :(
Well, anyway, I have a question: can I store stuff in one city and be on my way and trust that the stuff I left behind is still there when I get back?

So, either put things in containers that were empty when you 1st saw them, or make a habit of laying stuff out on the ground.
Glad you're enjoying the game ;)

I've also been playing as a thiefy wood elf for about three weeks now (both real time and game time), and I've just upgraded to Level 13. Once you complete a few quests for your contact in Balmora, the plot gets really involving (and so far, there's never been a dull moment in terms of gameplay :)).
Have you run into any guars yet? If so, wouldn't you agree with me that they must be somehow related to burricks? There are so many similarities...
Btw, if you haven't done so already, I suggest you wander around a bit northwest of Seyda Neen and admire the pretty clouds... you should be pleasantly surprised. ;)

Caldera's a great little town. One of my early game fav places. (Only a little over 100 hrs in & I'm still stuck in the 'early game' phase of things.) Anyway, what's so great about Caldera is the N & S Towers. 1st you plunder them & then, until you've either earned a house or installed a 'house' plug-in, store your loot in them. Careful w/the crates & sacks - stuff may disappear - but there's a ton of floor space to just stack/throw your loot. FWIW, I stored stuff in all 4 tower crates for days & weeks w/o anything disappearing but YMMV.

Hehehe, YES. The first time I saw a guar, the first thing I said was "BURRICKS!!!!" :D
Too bad it's the Alits that breathe the poison gas. ;)
