Um, I'm pretty sure I detect sarcasm in there.

Stop being an ass.
Everyone and their mother has played Doom. Were you trying to make a point, or were you just injecting a bit of ironic humor into this thread by calling
someone else an ass?

Well its impressive that a game this old still have a fanbase this active. It would be nice if they didn't totally hijack my thread though :D
Allright, so I got SS2 working. Kolya was right, it was the HT issue.
So with SHUTP, if its an ongoing project are only some textures high rez? Won't that look bad?
But I guess everyone reccomends it so it must be good. So whats the general consensus for first time, original models or rebirth complemented?
That fix for ATI CCC didn't work for me. My monitor options don't have that option for some reason and I have the newest version. Anyone know any other way to stop my monitor from stretching the image to widescreen?
Also why should I go Navy first time? I thought marines would be easier and more straight forward.
Thanks

I'm pretty sure SHTUP is on-going, but what there is a significant improvement. Yes, some stuff will still be low res, but from what I have seen most of the important environment stuff (such as signs) are significantly improved and it doesn't really conflict at all with the rest. There's no real argument against using it.
There is no real consensus on Comp Rebirth vs. not. Most here would probably say to do it without the first time you play, but I used it the first time out, and I don't think it negatively effected my experience. As I said above, I personally think the mod is an improvement over the original in every way, but it's pretty much a matter of taste. Check out the screenshots, and maybe test both ways out in the first level (that's what I did).
As for class, I'm not really an expert as I've only played as a Marine so far (4 times :p ). I would guess, however, that if you are used to typical FPSs, the Marine would probably be the best to start out on, but as I said, I'm no expert on the matter.

Marine is fine too, you just tend to miss out on the deeper gameplay a bit.
So catbarf's mother beat ZB 14 years ago in Doom? Maaan...
I'm fully expecting more weird plot-twists here. Like Mercurius admitting to be his own child, sent back from the future by his father to end this age old feud. Because we will need all our men in the war against Wikipedia's dark lord drat, you know. Yeah, he only appeared to be a chronicler while subtly altering reality to his every whim. And YOU stand here talking!!!

OK. That did it. First the Smurfs, now this.
*drumroll*
I hereby dub Kolya as the master of plot twists. :weird:

Honestly, go with whatever you think is closer to your personality.
But personally speaking, I think SS2 really shines with some of the alternative gameplay -- the psy powers, the hacking, etc -- especially since you're perpetually dealing with low ammo and degrading weapons, and the game is just tailored like that, so you're getting more out of what the game offers ... But of course it's still an FPS, so you still want to have good weapon skills. So Navy is sort of a generous dip into both worlds, which is good for a first run. But go with what your personality tells you if you're really wondering about it. You'll probably want to play it again as another character type, anyway.
