New to series - Can't get Thief 1 to play :(

DDFix was already disabled. I think I had it enabled on the original (non-patched) thief.exe, but I downloaded a patched thief.exe from the thief-thecircle.com, which I enabled DDFix on. Then the game started working.

As for the codecs, I was never able to remove the one from the device manager, but I was able to uninstall one of the Indeo codecs (I had two versions installed) via a normal uninstall (note: I use Revo Uninstaller, not Add/Remove programs).

I also disabled ffdshow for Thief.

Hmm... Not sure why the manually edited thief.exe would work any better. I'm assuming you are using manual ddfix then? the GUI version will patch/unpatch thief.exe without you needing to do anything but hit a button. Also, you said you enabled ddfix on the downloaded exe. If it's the prepatched ddfix exe, there's no need to do that. Or were you referring to the official thief patch?:confused:

I used the DDFix GUI to then patch that, and then the game worked.

I thought I had previously tried that, though, so that's why I'm not sure if the removal of the codecs and disabling fddshow did anything.

Ohhhhh, I see now. Sorry, I thought you were referring to the prepatched ddfix exe, (http://www.saleck.net/Downloads/Thief-TheDarkProjectGold/DDFix-Thief1.zip) here.

Well, you could try adding them back, then you will know.

Anyway, does your game work (movies load, can start mission?)

Yea, works perfectly.

The menus still flicker, but I'm guessing that's because it's an old game. Other than that, nothing wrong as far as I can tell.

Hi guys!

I can now run Thief 1!

I reinstalled the Gold Version and replaced the .exe with the one linked above and applied the ddfix gui. For the first time I was able to get into game mode but it crashed shortly after. I then installed the widescreen patch with a res of 1280 x 800 and it has been working perfectly!

I have the same problem, I did all that vertimyst, I have the DDfix and all that but everytime I try to load a mission It just crashes
