WAAAAAH WAAAAAAH THEY USED A NEW VOICE ACTOR SO I MADE UP A STORY ABOUT A 2 YEAR OLD BEING ABLE TO FORM COMPLEX MEMORIES AND OPINIONS!
You haven't played the game, therefore your opinion that it somehow magically sucks because of the voice actor being recast is completely and utterly meaningless.
Every role gets recast sooner or later. In video games, it's often sooner. Deal with it.

Not necessarily. Sometimes they leave things alone and let a franchise finish on a high.

It's an ignorant, biased, and irrelevant opinion to assume that any and all change is for the worse.
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night ignored most of the conventions of prior Castlevania titles, but it's widely considered one of the best in the franchise. Q.E.D.
You could list hundreds of sequels or reboots that have turned on a dime and defied all expectations. I could also list hundreds that have tried to do be something their predecessors weren't, and failed miserably for it.
It's not the change that bothers us. It's that core features are being exchanged for worse ones.

Very well put. If you asked an artist to re-paint the Mona Lisa for a new modern day audience, and he painted a superbly accurate depiction of Lady Gaga in concert and called it "Mona Lisa 2", you're bound to have some disquiet.
Sure the picture of Lady Gaga might be nice to look at and technically brilliant in it's own right. But it's missed the point somewhat solely due to it's name and the brief that it need to be a reboot of the Mona Lisa.
If it had been called "Lady Gaga In Concert" and the artist had said his inspiration was the Mona Lisa, then fine very few would complain.
Saying it's the Mona Lisa brings certain expectations that it will at least resemble the original piece in some way.
To complete the metaphor, NuThief resembles Thief about as much as Lady Gaga resembles the Mona Lisa in that they are both women.

Somebody sure is awfully angry to go through the effort of pulling out the all caps and wrongfully attributing an entire quote to me. You can believe what you want, but it sure sounds of anger and jealousy.
Perhaps you should back away from the mountain, and only then will you gain enough perspective to see that is it not that big.

...what would I be jealous of? Your bitter hatred of something you weren't even willing to try before passing judgment on? Oh man, you're right. I'm so jealous of blind prejudice. I don't know what I was thinking, wanting to give something a chance to prove itself before claiming it to be an abomination.

You know, I can see why some here would be at least suspicious over some of the things we've been seeing about Thief 4. It's almost like an old friend by this point, held near and dear to the hearts of many for over a decade now, and people are going to be going over every bit of news they see and hear with a fine toothed comb. Any changes, pro or con, aren't gonna be met with immediate enthusiasm. It's justified, and completely understandable.
What I don't like is the hyperbole and knee-jerk hate. Like taking everything that comes out of EM mouth as a personal slight, reinterpreting every word so it comes out in the worst way possible. Or going around screaming "SWILL" and "RUBBISH" and the ever popular "DUMBED DOWN FOR THE MASSES". It makes everyone here look like petulant children, or...even worse...oldschool Fallout fans. You don't have to like something. No one's forcing you to enjoy something you won't. But you should not like something gracefully. Make your point. Say it loud. Voice your opinion.. But don't stamp your goddamn feet and whine about it.
...and the first person who says "I'm not whining, I'm laughing about it" gets punched in the neck.

But, it pretty much is, isn't it? Even Godzirra would admit to that. I don't see that as hyperbole as much just the plain truth.
And btw, some of the anti-hate is just as bad if not worse than the hate, IMO.
