Dalin over at <strike>PlanetMorrowind</strike> Morrowind Summit recently visited the BethSoft offices (which are only 3 miles from my office where I'm typing this... I have to drop in there some day... I wonder if Emil Wickedlonglasname actually works out of their main office... we can have coffee and talk about "Life of the Party"... I'm babbling... where was I?), and had this to say. I'd link to the post directly, but it's just a news entry on the (
http://www.rpgplanet.com/morrowind/) front page (Wednesday, November 12, at the bottom of the page).

"I mentioned a 'field trip' in my last entry, but didn't provide any details. Well, I have good news, and I have bad news. Good news is, the purpose of the trip was to visit the folks at Bethesda Softworks. Bad news is, Todd captured my soul in a soul ge... Non Disclosure Agreement, and as such, I am not permitted to give -any- details of what I saw. I -am- permitted however, to say that 1) yes, Bethesda is working on a new project... 2) yes, it is absolutely amazing... both in concept and scope... 3) what I saw (even taking into consideration its very early development life), was nothing short of phenomenal.
Sure... nothing worked perfectly, and there was nothing to really do in the game just yet, but the visuals just brought such a degree of realism... they have certainly raised the bar on this one. And talking to Todd about the new gameplay systems, and anticipated features... you just can't help but get excited about the potential of this game.
I wish I were permitted to say more... or even something helpful for that matter... I suppose all I can say is keep your eyes peeled... amazing things are coming. ;)
That makes me happy. It probably won't happen for at least another 2-3 years, but if they can find a way to top the open-ended genius and unparalleled backstory/depth that was Morrowind, sign me up. So, if Dalin is indeed talking about the next TES game (which is supposedly going to be called "Oblivion"), it looks like we'll have Elder Scrolls goodness for years to come. For me, at least, appetite = whetted.
{Edit} Why is every other GameSpy site called PlanetNameOfGame, except Morrowind? "Morrowind Summit"? Geh. If they had only named the site PlanetMorrowind, this post wouldn't have needed any editing! Selfish, selfish, selfish. {/Edit}

If you do stop by there, look for the man who designs the faces and make sure he's not screwing it up this time. 'Oblivion' is still going to take place in Sumerset Isles, right?

Well, according to (
http://www.m0use.net/~uesp/oblivion/espobl.shtml) the UESP's Oblivion page, it is. Of course, that's not an official site, and it's sometimes not clear where they get their info, as they don't cite sources a lot.
My gut says: a whole game about the Altmer? It's possible that I might be bored stiff by the second day. They seem to have such potential in their backstory, but at least in Morrowind, they were not fleshed out or interesting at all.

Did you know that apparently, the Altmer kill their young if they aren't what they see as 'perfect'?
And the Isle of Artaeum (Headquarters of the Psijics) can be found in Summerset Isle. So there is probably quite a bit of fleshing out they can do if it's set there.

Apparently, the Dunmer do that as well, accounting for the appallingly few children residing in Vvardenfell. :nono:

Yeah Emil works in here with everyone else in the big dark cubicle filled basement of the building. He's always running around the place bugging me about some game I have to play. You can probably find him at the Gamestop on the pike about once a week buying something. Emil buys practically every single new game :wot: We only have two offices - here and one in hunt valley where they do our IHRA games.
And no visits allowed unfortunately :) We're in top secret stealth mode right now until we start talking about our new stuff, and who knows when that will be? Well, I do, but I'm not telling! :cheeky:
Dalin has requested to make Morrowind Summit into a Planet site, probably Planet Elder Scrolls, but they told him not until there's more info about another Elder Scrolls game, and only if that is, in fact, what we're working on.

That's it; I'm driving down Rockville Pike and we're going out for lunch or drinks some time soon. I'd make a hip or amusing regional reference here, except that I've only lived here 2 months and don't know the area well enough, and it's not my hood anyway. So... um... yeah. GAITHERSBURG REPRESENT. I got nothin'.
I'm at that GameStop with embarrassing frequency. I'll have to start wearing my TTLG hat when I go in there.

Ok, so I hate reviving topics that are more than a month past ther expiration date (just like eating yogurt of similar age.) But I was wondering why Kathode so rarely shows his face around here, and I arrived in this thread!
So it's been three months. Not too long, but I'm what you'd call impatient. Any more solid information you can tell us? From what was said the last time, everything was still a bit shakey.

These days you're lucky if Devs post replies at all in forums, the only high profile people I can think of that maintain a continual online prescence are the Bioware live team, and John Carmack with his diaries. I was genuinely amazed to see Mark Rein (from Epic) post on the Alien Storm forums the other day. That shows that at least devs remain interested in liaising with fans, seeing how fan projects pan out, etc, even when you don't expect it. (there's hope for thief yet!)
You can't blame Bethesda for keeping their new project mousey quiet, if it really is TES4 then the pressure to perform must be incredible. I am hopeful that we'll hear an announcement fairly soon, but 'soon' for this sort of project might mean another 6 months, and that's ok. If I were in charge at Bethesda, I'd look to an XBox 2 launch date for the game's release, since that'd mean a total development time of around 5 1/2 years (random educated guess), just enough to create the biggest and most immersive RPG ever!
