Thank you for this little gem, for me the absolute highlight was that I got my 16yo son beside me as we blind-ghosted this on Boxing Day. So: mission accomplished, dear authors :)
We enjoyed the atmospehre, the various little references (altough we missed some - the 'flattened cat' one,for instance), not to mention the 'Stille Nacht' :). We appreciated greatly the fact that it wasn't overly complicated (altough it took a while - and some peeks into the forum - to figure out all good deeds).
It's heartwarming that we still have new missions, 26 years on and counting. Happy Holidays, and a peaceful end of the year (a rare commodity these days), taffers!

Finished on: Ho!
The ending was great! I need to get back in there and find more loot though.

Love that you and your son played together - I've done the same with my kids, nieces & nephews etc. There are a lot of little Christmas references in the mission - the
'flattened cat' is actually a reference to the movie Christmas Vacation, kind of a Christmas staple here:(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EO5Ataai5Jg) . Glad you enjoyed it!

It feels weird giving my thoughts in text form...
-The mission is indeed really cozy. Very fun silly jokes, and also heartwarming feels.
-
Tiny Tim is the
Blackadder Tiny Tim!
-I thought there would be an ultra bonus objective for
also dropping Tiny Tim's half-eaten fruitcake chunk into the pit - because who knows, it might split itself and grow back into an army of them. Alas.
-As I was traipsing around town trying to find
Liesl's house, I ended up laughing in spite of myself - here I was, strolling around town in a black hood and cloak with
an unconscious kid over my shoulder - I mean I'm
doing a good deed, but try convincing anyone of that!
-You know pukey brunster's involved when we get those wonderful weird old advertisements. I especially liked the subtle humor of the poster saying
they use no harmful food colorings in their candy, and then ten feet away is another poster advertising
"tri-color crackers". Hmm.
-Loved the
heart growing three sizes note.
-Also the
"immaculate contraction" joke was wonderfully stupid (and I mean that in the best possible way).
-For hours I just had looping in my head, "I saw three ships come sailing in..." They just want to make sure Garrett doesn't miss any part of the song by restarting it every time he comes near. So considerate!
-I had trouble
putting the star on the tree. I did some crazy rope shenanigans by
putting one rope on the high beam and then another short length of rope on top of the tree, and jumping to it. From what I read apparently I could have just
reached the tree top from the beam rope? Ah well.
-
Breaking into someone's apartment, stealing their letter, and mailing it without their permission? Good deed.
Rescuing a lost orphan child from the sewers and bringing her home? Not a good enough deed. Come on, if you want into the
ice garden, you gotta start
trying, man.
-After I started finding more
sugar plumsies throughout the mission, it occurred to me what would happen if I
ate the first one before using it for the headache potion, so I reloaded to find out, but it turns out
the first one was a non-consumable quest item. Drat. Good design wins again.
-I love missions where Garrett is a softie. He'll never tell Basso he did any good deeds, he'll just act tough and cynical and pretend it was a total chore.
-The whole
fruitcakes side plot was hilarious, and the reward even more so. One thing I thought of later but didn't try was
trying to fall into the pit just as it filled in with Christmas cheer to see if I could get stuck or something.
-What's
algebrey (algebra?) and how would you use it to
throw a giant fruitcake down a chute?
That's all I can recall off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more. Anyway, I loved it. :thumb:
Hello Fen, we're thrilled to see your thoughts! And yes, it is new seeing them in text form lol, but great to read them all.
I'm familiar with Blackadder, but it's been too long so need to revisit (brilliant show). We were actually inspired by
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcSlcNfThUA). We even snuck a little harp version in the apartments :cheeky:
Love the fruitcake chunk idea, and yep love me some bizarre olden-timey ads. Makes me wonder what ads we see today that'll wind up in somebody's hologram FM 50 years from now, hmm.
Good catch on so many of our cheeky references, especially
immaculate contraction. I wondered if anyone might be offended, but the joke was too fun to resist. As for your Christmas tree/rope shenanigans, that's one thing I wish I could have seen firsthand lol. And love that you were curious enough to go back and test the sugar plumsies!
You nailed it about how we thought about Garrett, too - he would def never tell Basso, but at least in this version of him hints at a softie. Also, if you do try the fruitcake/Christmas cheer jump, we'd love to hear if you can make that work out lol.
As for the algebrey
that's a reference to my favorite, silly, childhood Christmas special. I couldn't find a clip for the referenced scene, so I guess you'll have to watch the whole thing ;) (https://www.dailymotion.com/playlist/x68xn7)Thanks so much for posting your thoughts here, Fen - a very Merry Christmas and taffing good New Year to you!

for the ice garden i should fulfill 4 things i read ,but i didn't check what and how. for example what should i put in the 4 sockets?
in the appartements there is a door with two milkbottles. how can i open this door?

I created an account just to comment on this FM, because there is no fan mission that legitimately, truly made me teary-eyed before. So it happened with Liesl's backstory/subplot. Had to take a break after fulfilling that little quest.
I think I'll add this to my Christmas eve/day ritual. Exquisite music, fun little readings and moments (everything that happens in a certain city guard building after you contribute to the festive atmosphere, and generally relaxed enough that you hardly have to blackjack anyone. Congrats to both makers on making such a warm (heh!) mission!
----
@radogoal: you can find out about the 4 secrets in this thread, I think someone compiled them.
As for the high court, while outside look up, you'll see a path quickly. Ditto for one of the apartments.
Each sock has a readable that tells you what to get.

Thank you for registering and coming here to comment. We're very happy that you enjoyed the mission so much, and moved that it affected you that way! And glad you had fun in the city watch : ) Thanks for playing and have a wonderful New Year's!

Thanks Tannar!
Agree with all the positive comments above. Great Christmas mission. Loads of interest to look at and some nice game play.
Managed to find all cakes and secrets, though about 600 down on loot.
Will definitely play this one again, but I'll try to remember not to KO all the guards before completing a certain task.
One place I couldn't get to was a room visible through a grating below the Chandler's sign.
Tannar on 29/12/2024 at 01:53
@frobbin hood: Thanks, we're very glad you enjoyed the mission! Congrats on finding all the secrets, and yes, it's maybe worth another gander at the city watch, lol. As for that room seen through the grating, you've been in there. That's where you found Liesl.
