I've seen many big business websites that aren't compliant either, and if it's good enough for them... it's good enough for me!
That's a dreadful attitude - even for a hobby site.

Look Garras, the thing is that most people in this thread could hack together a better page in 5 minutes without relying on wysiwyg editors. And these people do not call themselves "web designers" nor would they dream about announcing such a page on these forums.
You my friend suffer from serious delusions and on top of that you have your principles all wrong. If some big business sites screw up that's no excuse whatsoever for you to do the same.
Garras on 4/4/2009 at 13:56
Oh, it's like that is it?
I think the best thing for me to do is remove the site and never return here again. Right?
Kolya on 4/4/2009 at 14:04
Yes, the best thing for you to do is to keep on acting like an offended child. Do not try to learn anything from this and just find people instead who have no idea about webdesign and hence applaud your every effort.
Or take it like a man, stick around and get better. I understand that this thread has been hard to take, but we're not always assholes like that, okay? So peace.

I know all about what web design is about. I know my audience and do provide content to them that very much satisfy their needs. Again, for my 'proper' sites though.
Thing is, by saying this, you're saying that the people who would use the content on your SS2 site are not as important as the people who would use the content on what you call your "proper" sites. People aren't going to look to your site to satisfy their needs if they think that you don't care about what you've posted. Remember, people on the internet don't know you. They get an impression of who you are and how much you care about your content from the effort that was put into the site. If the site looks sloppy or unorganized, they're going to assume you don't care, either about the content, about them, or both.

Most WYSIWYG editors (what I use) don't adhere to the strict coding.
This is one of the big problems with browser incompatibility, too. I have five browsers on my computer. IE, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera. Six if you count Links, a text-based Fedora browser. The point of W3C compliance is to make sure that your website displays well on any browser. In an ideal situation, this would work perfectly. It doesn't, unfortunately, because of the differences between versions of HTML and the transitionary periods, but it does work well to an extent. Having a W3C compliant page will ensure that your website will look as good as it can in the multitude of browsers that are available.

Right. Because "big businesses"
always do what's right and what's best. :nono: Honestly, just because the big corps do it doesn't mean it's good practice.

Ummm... or you could behave like a grown-up, manifest the maturity to admit to yourself that you put up a laughably bad site, and take your lumps in good humour.
Garras on 4/4/2009 at 14:11
LOL. I love it, I really do!
I'm just playing ya guys, I know you all mean well. I just like pushing people to see how far they'll go. Oh well, looks like I'll re-do the site then.
Kolya on 4/4/2009 at 14:47
See there's the next problem right there. Be honest or you won't get far here.
You weren't pushing us, don't kid yourself. You were pissed off because of the way everyone spoke about your page. That's okay, it's understandable, it takes a lot of discipline to handle harsh criticism. And then it takes some more to not try and cover up one's initial reactions. But we see right through it anyway, so there's no use in saying "I'm just playing ya guys".
It's unlikely you're gonna play us anytime soon. But if you're being honest you can gain our respect.
That being said....
Inline Image:
http://img410.imageshack.us/img410/6278/htmlbasicpage.pngA basic HTML page. You can type this into notepad and save it with a .HTML file extension. The styling is entirely done by the browser's engine in this case, which is preferable in lots of cases. If you want to apply your own styles, it's time to learn CSS. But first get accustomed with hand-coding pages instead of using wysiwyg editors. That's child's play.
Garras on 4/4/2009 at 14:56
Uh, believe me... I WAS playing you.
And I WAS pushing you... you kept coming back for more. If I wasn't pushing you, you'd have just shut the f**k up and kept your opinions to yourself.
I don't want your respect. My site, my attitude? Take it or leave it.
For those of you who are interested... look for the new SS2 page coming soon!............................. 0101010101010101010101010101010101010101

Okay, you're a troll. I wasted my time on you.
