Nothing i haven't seen out of friends of mine here, so no worries Dink.
Its good to be the captain, since i don't see anybody else with quarters that...big.

Well, the captain is one of the most important people on a starship (I think. :cheeky: ), so they need to be in good shape to control the whole thing every day. :p

I guess developers should consider making Dark Engine 2.0 then. :p
They are. It's called The Dark Mod.

I only just finished the Nightwalker due to an unfortunate hard drive smelting accident, but it was still the win.
Apart from the stuff that has already been mentioned, I especially liked the fully stocked armory - it made a nice change from most games, where the armory contains a shotgun clip and half a banana. I think it perfectly marked the transition from hunted and vulnerable to "powerful predator" that is always a fun part of FPS games.

I don't think the UNN Nightwalker really needs a huge update to a Version 2. A V1.x version maybe with minor bug fixes if it needs it, but not a whole new V2 with new areas and stuff.
As to the "captain swearing" voicemail bit you could, for comical relief, have a computer voice come on at the end after the first few non-english words saying something like "message censored due to inappropriate language" to help get the point across, but it's hardly needed and I personally wouldn't bother with it.
Only real change I'd make is to Peggy's log image (though it be pushing your luck with copyright laws). You used Ed O'neal's "Al Bundy" (Married with Children) pic for woman's shoe-salesman Al Bunde (or however you spelled it to help get around the copyright) in Ponterbee Station, so you could use Kate Segal's pic (or whatever her name is) who played Peg Bundy as Peg and maybe whoever-actress as neighbour/friend Marcy (or whatever). Of course then you'd have to worry a lot more about copyright issues. I thought it was downright funny... Al's distant Bundy descendant still under the Bundy Curse.
Other than that, I mean really, you have to remember that (the ship) is essentually a small cargo/transport that makes routine runs probably between a few neighbouring stations/colonies. You wouldn't find a mall or some huge multi-area cargo area like those in SS2.
On a small ship like the Nightwalker it would be normal for shared bathrooms (like we saw) and for 9/10'ths of the crew to know the other 9/10'ths. The ship's armory would be small and limited (so there being few if any heavy weapons would be normal unless they were specifically transporting a weapons shipment). Most crew wouldn't have that much money (so again a mall is rather pointless) and personal possessions would be limited with only upper command staff really owning anything.
In the Nightwalker's case, the crew probably opted for a shooting range rather than a small movie theater (shooting targets lets off more stress, especially since if two people have a fight you can't really seperate them to two vastly seperate corners of the ship) so crew members, especially those most prone to stress like the captain, would tend to be grumpy.
Regardless of gender the captain would tend to eat more and probably have his or her own personal weapon for the shooting range. (In fact, any crew member who frequented the shooting range would prefer their own gun/rifle/whatever that they can tune up and keep in shape as they personally prefer rather than always having to use a shelf-stock used-by-everyone edition). So the captain having his/her own small personal armory makes perfect sense since they are the most likely crewmember to be able to afford it.

Hello! I just now discovered these works! Masterpieces they are! I had no difficulty installing or playing either Ponterbee Station or Nightwalker! The Peggy character shocked me! I never expected to see a living person! I kept going down there and visiting with her. She made me feel less lonely and actually helped me with some of my personal issues. She is a good counselor!
One nagging little thing. I keep going over the audio of the voice that sounds when you hack a turret. I cannot for the life of me understand what it says.
Does anyone know?
I am beside myself in admiration and respect for all of the people involved in making these. Especially Christine. Thank you!
Im about to try this thief 2 conversion now too!

Ooooh, purty...So your already working on the sequal?
Dinksmallwood on 4/10/2006 at 08:20
@ Hedgewan
It says: 'Turret Hacking Alert'
Well, at least that's what I wanted Win-XP Text-to-Speech to say ;)

A very shocking christmass?
Sorry, couldn't resist. Anyway that's...actually something I'd never thought of as doable with the dark engine. Don't know why really since both you and blayes have proven that outdoor enviroments are doable and the 'snow' is just a bunch of colored particals.
