I do not remember if I posted in this thread yet or not, but I was extremely pleased by Ponterbee Station. It was nearly as long as the original campaign and was full of fresh surprises that made it very enjoyable to play through. Bravo on a job well done.

What
was the original campaign, anyway?

:weird:
This is a trick question, right?

No.

It all started with a big fat ugly dead monkey.
The monkey had had to be psi-dampened, stunned with an electric prod, bathed in sulphuric acid and run over with a shuttle several times after it had signed the passcode for a supply closet to another monkey. The girl in the blue shirt played Nurse Loesser in the Bollywood adaption.

Started playing today. Roughly forty minutes into the game, I got
trapped on the Command deck. I tried to return to the Recreation deck but the game told me I had to send the message t the Nightstalker first. I had to fight the two assault droids in the great hall with the wrench and a pistol. Then I frantically tried to save as much ammo as possible, dodging cyber-assassins and shotgun-wielding hybrids. Finally, my pistol broke and I didn't have the repair skill yet. I ultimately managed to activate the transmitter
but just when I thought it was over Shodan herself killed me. Damn was I glad I had activated that QBRM near the elevator. That was the first time in System Shock 1 & 2 I actually had to use one of those to survive.
I didn't have that much fun since the original System Shock. Great fan mission so far. I like the little details like the rubber duckies or the fishtank. The only thing which I thought was lacking was the voice acting.
I'll give a more thorough account of my time on Ponterbee station when I'm finished.

Gee, thanks.
That was enlightening.
The girl
is good looking, though.
Just a little note for anyone who is interested:
On the Colony level, you can mantle the shuttle and, if you have good Agility (or the RunFast implant), do a running jump over the railing onto the roof and snipe the Saurians below. Quite fun, actually, especially if you have the Assault Rifle and a boatload of anti-personnell bullets. :ebil: Enchantermon

Finished on "Hard" in what have been rougly six hours.
Heavy spoilers ahead!
Positive aspects:
* competent level design, sometimes better than in the original game
* whereas the first deck is pretty straightforward, the other ones don't require you to clear them in a particular order (good)
* a lot of little details (rubber ducklings, movie posters, etc.)
* the colony was a nice surprise, as were the saurians
Negative aspects:
* the colony wasn't much of a challenge
* disappointing ending, a flick of a switch and Shodan is (presumably) gone
* if possible, redo the end-animation and add credits
* voice acting ranged from o.k. to downright terrible (heavy German accents)
* Shodan wasn't really established, why include her in the first place
* we never get now what really happened to Suarez and Rebecca (only one log by Suarez?)
* much of the atmosphere in the original was created through the audio logs, but I never cared for any of the crew of Ponterbee station, logs should have been more carefully planned
* right, were do the cyber-midwives come from?
Bugs I noticed:
* I couldn't break the glass of the window in the very last room with the wrench that I picked up in the very first room. Had to retrieve another one.
* In some areas, creatures respawned so quickly I hardly had enough time to reload. Once when I gunned down a hybrid in Hydroponics, another one immediately respawned behind him and just when I had killed him, another one spawned. This occured in front of the room where the annelids jump out of those large tanks.
* There is a corpse floating corpse in a tank the Operations deck which dissapears if you change the perspective.
* Once I got attacked by an indestructible droid on the second level of the crew quarters on deck 5.
* After clearing the Med/Sci-deck, it is possible to immediately go to the Command deck and get trapped there without sufficient weapons or ammo. One cannot return to the Recreation deck because the transmitter needs to be activated first.
* Dead saurians sometimes look odd because sometimes their tails are pointing towards the ceiling.

What kind of things would you have liked to see in the Colony level? I thought it was quite imaginative to have an old Triop facility taken over by dinosaur like creatures:cheeky:
I suppose a boss fight could have ended the game quite well but not like the original SS2 fight:rolleyes: :bored: - that was a joke.

Play melee-only without the laser rapier and see if you still think that. :ebil:
