When you started playing on a different installation, did you use a save file from after you'd arrived on Hydro to get back to where you were?
It's a completely new installation of System Shock 2.
TheNightTerror on 20/9/2005 at 08:31
Oops. :erm: You've patched the game, made it mod friendly, and all that? And is this happening on all the decks, or just this one? If it's only happening on Hydro, my offer for the save file still stands. :) Won't take more than a few seconds to get you up to Hydro and save the game again, and the spawning problems should be dead. Hopefully. :erm:

my personal feeling was, that especially on hydroponics the respawn rate is very very high, and i dont have return to unn installed. :)

One thing I have noticed, just on my arrival in Hydro, is the respawning. I've got midwives spawning right in front of me. Every time I kill something I can here something else spawning in the room next to me. This means I'm constantly getting shot in the back, unable to progress...
The respawn on Hydro is higher than on the others levels, but that shouldn't happend (and never happen to me, while testing it). I will take a look at the Respawn on Hydro.
ZylonBane on 20/9/2005 at 19:34
The respawning on Hydro did feel pretty continuous (I can't count how many times I knocked out that one hybrid guarding the chemical storeroom), but it didn't bother me too much since it's such a large level, and the enemies that spawn are so easily dispatched.
Enchantermon on 20/9/2005 at 20:23
Hemebond: I noticed that the respawn rate was higher on Hydro than on other decks, but it wasn't ever as bad as you're describing it.

I haven't died once, so there is no respawn rate problem. In all, very nicely constructed for a fan mod. Some suggestions:
1. Extend the colony maps. Have the shuttle land at a research base on the far side of the planet. Then have shodan blow up the access path from the shuttle pad to the tram station, forcing the player to detour through caves full of many deadly deadly creatures. Make sure they are something other than saurians. Something new :)
2. Add some more decor room, and abandon the flat boxy ceilings on the station maps. In other words, either lower the ceilings to close in the map more, or alter the architecture :)
3. Less ammo :) I had 312 standard ammo, at the end of the game.
4. More objectives, hints, and more logs. Make the logs point out some map hints to the players like "Damn, the fingerprint scanner for the comforce barrier at the bridge elevator has just broken.... again. I keep telling them to wipe their hands, but they just never listen. I open the panel up this time and guess what? Some idiot had let donut icing seep into the edges around the panel. Shorted the whole circuit out. I put a button bypass on it, code of 1089. We ordered a new replacement, but I don't think HQ is going to get it out here for awhile. Not if all they're sending is these damn rubber ducks." (As per suggestion #6, this log needs to be found on deck 4)
Commentary on the voice logs: I am glad you at least have them :) Other than just a tad more emotion and natural language flow, they're ok. Shodan however, needs more inhumanity. And she must talk more :) Remember, the good thing about SS is that shodan isn't on a beach somewhere waiting to pop her head in for the final act. That was a nice touch with the transmitter and the shodan manifestations by the way.
5. Just a random funny scene, something akin to the infamous droid easter egg, would be to have the player be able to watch a saurian pick up a laser rapier and have another saurian try to take it away(Like jealous children fighting over toys), then have one chop the others arms off, and then have the non-amputated one look at it quizzically then try to wax out his ears with the rapier :) Then have his body jerk and get electricuted... then have the whole thing overload and explode, sending saurian giblets threw and unbreakable window that the player has to go through. You could do this at a critical door, and have the door behind the player jam, and the one in front of him jam, then have Xerxes XP to come over the intercom and say "This is xerxes, tri-optimum would like to remind you that personal hygiene is is a requirement of con-continued employment. Regular inspections will be undertaken by your local gadfly. And remember, a clean underpants is everybody's responsibility."
6. When I played, I didn't presume to go down to engineering first, thus, I went all over the place, even though I found a log warning about creatures all over the ship. So to fix that, you have the elevator prohibit the player from going anywhere but engineering. Have xerxes come over the intercomm and say "This is Xerxes. Company policy states in the event of a lifesupport failure, crew members will only be allowed to go in the direction of the escape pods. We regret the loss of the fuzzy teddy bear in your quarters captain decker." On arriving in engineering, have the elevator display panel(The thing that says what deck you're on, thats directly opposite the doors in the elevator car), fall open, exposing... voila, a hardware override. Then have the player hear yelling and tapping coming from outside, and see a guy tapping on an unbreakable window next to a card-locked door that leads to engineering. Have him pant "You've got to hurry.... that tyrannical toaster turned off the oxygen... get in the elevator, get to deck 3, turn the air back on... the air down in engineering always goes first, but soon everyone on board will die.... johnson tried to squeeze under the door, but he couldn't make it before she crushed him with it. He has.... an override on him that will let you ride the elevator ...to deck 3. Now *pant* hu... hur. hurry!" Then have the NPC fall down in die in true cyberpunk standalone fashion. Player goes over, picks up override, then off he goes to deck 3 to save the station. Have a log on deck 4 or 6 mention something to the effect of "Thank god lifesupport got back on, I was about to lose all hope."
7. Ok here's where we break the standard mold of SS2. After the player turns the oxygen back on, he finds a buncha shiny new turrets waiting for him at the elevator. Theres a fresh body just outside the elevator door. He dispatches them deftly and heads on his way back to engineering. The car comes to a stop and shabang! Another scream! THis time its right outside the car. After some flickering of lights and more screams followed by shotgun blasts and a buncha repetitive bangs on the elevator door, have to door slide open to reveal a massacre. The player searches the bodies, and find a log that says "We gotta get out of here, the air is getting toxic. We sent Murez and Johnson to get the air supply going again. Murez came back and said that someone had set up turrets guarding deck 3, and that the elevator wouldn't let him go up to deck 4. He said he it would take him up to deck 5. We're getting everyone left down here to go to engineering.... Ok we're at the elevator. Why the hell is it so slow? *Cue background screams, a hybrid voice screaming "THE MANY RESTRAINS YOU!!"* Oh SHI *incredibly loud shotgun blast, followed by static, followed by log cut out* " The player finds the engineering access card on one of the bodies, opens the door, and goes onward as planned. After engineering, the player tries to head up to ops. He can't, so remembering what the log on engineering said, he goes up to deck 5. There, he finds a log that details about how the rec deck crew are locked out of the bridge, and that commander decker and the UNN can't override it from their side. Have the log mention that one of the techies from OPS was up messing with the control panel earlier that day. Have them plan to get to ops via a engine water coolant pipe that flows under the athletics sector swimming pool, and that they have to put a power cell into a slot in order to drain the pipe partially so that they can breathe. Player naturally goes to the pool area, only to find it access carded. He then goes over to the crew quarters, and finds a surprise. The guy they sent to put the power cell in is dead, power cell dead in hand. Player picks up the pool access card off the dead body, then puts it in the slot. Heads back to pull, takes a deep breath, then plunges in for a wild ride. Have it take all sorts of twists n turns, and then go underwater completely, passing several dead bodies with flashlights or some kind of dark spooky lighting. Then finally, he gets dumped out into an overflow tank in ops. Climbs out then everything is back to normal.
^ My suggestion for changing and mixing up the plot so it isn't "Oh this is just a cookie cutter SS2 rerun"
Anywho, I realize those are some tall order suggestions... but if you pull them off, then maybe it will be SS3, and not a fan campaign hmm? If you do it right that is. And hire an acting coach :thumb:

Insingus, you have nice suggestions and story ideas. :)
But I wonder why you don't put yourself in front of your computer screen, install ShockEd and build your own mod...
and find out how hard and time-consuming this work is and that some of your suggestions are nearly impossible to realize when you also have a r/l beside ShockEd...
 ;)

:laff: That's great! Probably next to impossible to implement, but great nonetheless! :laff:

But where's the fun in that? I liked the fact that you weren't restricted to going to a specific level next, that you could go anywhere you wanted, basically.

Holy cow, dude. You
do know that she isn't going to do all that, right? Or
any of it, for that matter, at least not in this campaign.

Okay, that's just insulting. This was
not an SS2 rerun! Far from it! This was one of the most immersive campaigns I have ever played, it makes a wonderful extension to the SS2 storyline, and seeing as how Christine labored over this for goodness-knows-how-long, I would think you could show a little more respect.

The only problem with that statement is that it's not
supposed to be SS3, and it
is supposed to be a fan campaign!

Look, maybe some of the logs don't measure up to the ones in SS2 when it comes to acting, but
give these people a break! They're
volunteers, not professionals! I didn't hear any logs that totally broke the immersion for me by making me think: "Woh, thatz relly bad axting lolol!!!11"
Cool off a little, dude. You've got some really good ideas, so why don't you learn ShockED and make your own fan campaign? If nothing else, it will give you a better understanding and appreciation for Christine, blaydes99, Doc 4, icemann, and anyone else who has contributed to level design using ShockED.
