I just got Underworld working. Although it looks a lot like Wolfenstein 3d (one of the first games I played) I have to say it seems better. Just a lot more stuff you can do. I haven't saved at all yet because I don't really know what I'm doing. I played some of Ultima IV and I remember that Shepherds absolutely sucked in it. UW seems a lot different, so is there any advantage or is the class only to trick people or give you a challenge?

Hehe. HEHE. :laff: That is quite possibly the largest understatement that has ever been spoken.
How you shape your character is not only up to you, it's also important. Just play and enjoy, and the day will soon come where you actually feel embarrassed for even mentioning Wolfenstein in the same sentence. :) You have one of the greatest games in history in front of you right now.

And once you've fully appreciated just how vastly superior Underworld's capabilities are compared to Wolf3D, you can then marvel at the fact that Underworld came first! :)
As for your question, I'm afraid I have no idea whether Shepherds have any particular advantages or disadvantages in the game. Sorry. Stick with the game, though -- it's still superb, even today!

Personally speaking, having played through the game using all the available classes, I have found the Druid to be the best as far as stats go. Strong attack, defence and mana make this class choice to be a great all-rounder.

I think I will play through as a Shepherd, just for laughs. That way I can reach super-avatar levels and defeat the ultimate evil to become the legendary sheep-herder! Baah! Did anybody else inadvertently become a shepherd in Ultima IV and wind up with a sucky character on a haunted island filled with poison? If anybody beat that game with a shepherd, my hat off to you. I think know I might concentrate on beating System Shock 2, Halloween being close and scarier games more fitting the mood.
