A dingo ate my SS2.

Once again, I have to say that I find it absolutely incredible the amount of people who manage to lose their SS2 CDs. I have never, ever lost a game CD in my life. I still have the original CDs of games that are some 12 years old or more :p

I have lost 3 or 4 copies of games before, but that has nothing to do with me, just my brother.

I've lost the odd CD. I've also had CDs physically break on me- one started to fall to pieces in the drive and two have ended their lives with star cracks from having their cases land on them when I knocked them off the desk with my elbow. So it does happen, sometimes.
On the other hand, I still have the original disks for Mac Wizardry and BBC Elite over twenty years later.

And they still work? I heard CDs wouldn't last past 20 years usually.

Depends on how you store the CDs, to keep the data in good condition for as long as possible.

BBC Elite = 5 1/4" floppy and Mac Wizardry = 3.5" floppy. I would be amazed if either disk still worked even if I had the right computer to use them in, but I do still have them.

As far as I know, data slowly gets lost over time on any storage device. Which is why I make a second copy of the important files I got.

I have a copy of Doom on the original floppies. They still work.

I still have my working copy of System Shock in its original nine 3.5" floppy disks :)
