To my fellow music geeks, just finished a new song and am inviting (begging?) listeners. Generally, it's about the fear and uncertainty that I think most parents/spouses feel when thinking about the wellbeing of their dependents. Specifically, I think all the hours I've spent in the basement due to tornado warnings are taking their toll on this
Californio.
Recording/writing: Fought the guitars the whole way because they were in DADGAD but set up for standard. Still figuring out how to use my recording gear to best effect and can't help but feel like the compressing into mp3 format "flattens" out the sound--it almost always seems to sound better in wav format. (Changing the battery in my preamp helped! :tsktsk:) I'm realizing there's a VERY fine line between heartfelt and cornball and it takes true talent to dance on that edge without crossing it. I'm still trying to figure out where my "talent" allows me to dance.
Critiques and advice welcome:

I really like the guitars, especially the bass and the whiny effects laden outro. Not a fan of the vocals though. Smoke 100 cigarettes today and try again. :p But hey dawg, that's just my opinion because that's my bag. It'd make a nice instrumental track.

I like it. Nothing more to add really. I wouldn't mind hearing some more of your stuff. Hopefully you won't take this as an insult, but I like the atmosphere and the simplicity a lot.

Yeah that was nice. :)

Nice song man, really smooth. The only piece of advice I'd give is to refine the percussion further so that it sounds less like a metronome, and more like a beat or a pulse, if that makes sense. Having such a mechanical/clockwork beat kind of detracts from the otherwise really slippery and fluid tone of the song in my opinion. I'm not sure if that's a matter of mixing or looking at a different arrangement because I'm shit at music production. Just a thought though, and I'm only splitting hairs because I know that's what I look for when I ask for criticism of any music I make.

Thanks all for listening!
Yah, I totally agree with that. I was scratching for ways to rob more time from various tracks to "de-mechanize" the drum track, but could only do that for about the last third of the song. I agree that the drum machine can make things a little sterile. (Maybe someday I'll be able to put an electric drum kit in the basement!)

Sombras posted a whole buncha stuff in the "Creative Stuff Here" megathread, as have other people, it would be well worth going through that and checking some stuff out too. Muzman has a movie in there!

unfortunately it wasn't amateur
Regarding the song I was expecting something pretty dodgy but you're holding the tune fine. As ercles said, though, as soon as the canned percussion kicked in it took a little while to forget about how weird it sounds. Nice guitars.

Muz's student movie was amateur, the other one wasnt?
