As of yesterday (possibly earlier), I noticed that Stranger's Wrath updated through Steam, now version 1.1 in the readme. So I fire it up, hoping for the best, and...
...THIS IS MORE LIKE IT!
Now this system can play at 1600x1200, smooth as butter, like it should for a game like this. There are noticeable framerate drops from the usual constant 60+ FPS at a few locations, but not to unplayable levels. Oh, and the launcher now has a proper list of resolution options.
Also, you can now select which controller the game uses. This is especially important since it just defaulted to the first DirectInput controller if one was connected at release. Not good if you want to play KB+M or have controllers other than X360 gamepads connected all the time taking that first DirectInput ID. No matter which one you choose, though, it still has X360 icons unless you're using KB+M, and I don't think it changes the icons depending on your binds (I use ESDF).
Speaking of which, you can now remap each controller individually, but you'll have to do it from an .ini file in the Documents folder, not in-game. Gives me vibes of Independence War, but at least there's less controls to mess with when setting everything up, and once everything's set up properly, you don't have to worry about it later. What I don't get is that I HAD to remap my wireless X360 pad before the icons and the actual controls would match up. Also, there appear to be hardcoded deadzones, and my right twiddlystick on this X360 pad will just exceed it heading right sometimes.
Long story short, the game is now playable on PC. Some things could still be done better, but I'm sure they'll have everything polished up by the time we get the PS3 assets.

I bought it in the steam sale over christmas, then heard horror stories, so that's good to know. I have too many other games though so by the time I get round to playing it, it should be perfect! :cheeky:

Confirmed. It runs great now. The only problem I'm having is reading the text in the main menu and options menu, its all blurred out for some reason. Other than that the game scales properly and looks fantastic. I can get into it now!

Good news! Though I have them both for the original Xbox, I have toyed with the idea of purchasing these on Steam sometime. When I read about the horrific, ridiculous, and unacceptable launch of these PC versions, I wrote them off. I am extremely glad to see that they are standing behind their products, patching them up, and promising further support.
I am patiently waiting for the next time Steam has them on sale!

Stranger's Wrath HD is now available as a free patch for the PC version on Steam.

A similar free HD content patch is planned for Munch's Oddysee in the future some time (after the console version of Munch's Oddysee HD is out the door).

How does Munch compare to the Abe games? Is it also a platform-puzzler? Does it feel reasonably similar in spite of the change to 3D?
