Sooo, I went with BenQ XL2720Z. I've been testing it on a bunch of different things and it's really cool. I'm glad I went for 27", 24" would be way too small and the 1080p res is absolutely sufficient.
Colors are generally really good (though let's be honest, I don't have an IPS/VA panel to compare side by side) though I find it a bit odd that stuff on the desktop tends to be rather pale. Maybe I'm too used to the colors of my previous monitor... The thing is, generally it's great, colors are vibrant in games but stuff like desktop folders seem to blend a bit too much with the white background.
This monitor has a bunch of presets for color reproduction. So, when I set it to Photo or Movie, the desktop stuff looks a lot better but everything else (like games) has colors that are too intense. It's not a huge deal as everything where colors are important looks awesome but I'm wondering if I can fiddle with the settings to find a better balance instead of potentially switching modes. I'm currently using sRGB though for non-gaming stuff I might stick with Eco - that screen is freaking bright and it makes my eyes hurt as a lot of websites have tons of white (it's completely fine in games though).
Also, the 144Hz refresh rate is awesome. I've tried some older games where I can actually get that many frames and while it's not a 30->60 difference, it certainly makes the movement (especially with a mouse) a lot smoother and more enjoyable. Anyone who says 120/144Hz (let alone 60) is not noticable is insane.
Overally, so far I'm really happy with it. Now at least my monitor is ready for all the upcoming games. :)

I don't understand why monitors are always made so bright. I run mine at 10% and that's plenty. The default is blindingly bright.
