Replace your shock2.gam file with this one to have bullet casings that bounce around and don't disappear upon striking the ground (doesn't happen in the original game). This really seems to spice up the experience of shooting in SS2. As far as I know, Irrational never got this working correctly in the retail game, nor has anyone in the community, so this is new territory and looks great.
Pistol, Assault Rifle, and Slug Turrets eject bullet casings. They will disappear after being off-screen for 30 seconds to save memory. Triple fire mode on the pistol produces three shells. The turrets look especially cool when shooting at you.
The shotgun ejects shells as well that bounce around and stay. Triple fire ejects 3 shells. This also replaces the unused crappy shotgun shell sounds with good ones so the shells sound like shells hitting the ground.
And yes, I do take requests, so please let me know if I missed something that should be ejecting casings. This mod is fully compatible with SHTUP, Rebirth, custom weapons, etc. (Anything that doesn't replace the shock2.gam). It would be fairly easy to incorporate this into other mods, such as Straylight's... so let me know if you would like that.

EDIT: The current version now includes some changes: the shotgun shells sound like shotgun shells now when hitting the ground, the grenade launcher ejects empty grenade shells, and the fusion cannon ejects small prism cannisters.

Gonna try that.. :thumb:

Try it out - it's so fun to switch that assault rifle to fully-auto and just let loose and listen to all the shells bouncing around. Seeing shells all over the ground after a fight makes SS2 just that much cooler.
And guess what guys? I can make other weapons eject shell casings as well - such as the grenade launcher, prism weapons, etc. I just need decent models and sounds for some used grenade casings and used prisms. Any other weapons that need ejecting brass/shells?

Should some of the exotic weapons technically eject empty lab beakers? ;)

Yeah, I'm thinking that some weapons will eject an empty lab beakers, prism cannister, etc as you begin reloading... sounds cool?
Kolya on 8/10/2006 at 18:58
While this sounds very cool (I have yet to try this mod.) I always figured the beakers were just to collect the worms which would then be filled into the launcher. I can't quite imagine how you would shoot them from a glass beaker which drops to the ground afterwards all without leaving a flaw or breaking it.
Compromise: The worms could be shot out of their own worm-skin which then drops to the ground with a little squish.

Yeah, I'm still trying to figure out if I should even try and do something with the worms...
On another note though, the grenade launcher now ejects "empty" grenade cannisters. The fusion cannon also ejects small prisms, but I would rather it eject a prism cannister upon reloading (not working yet).
Anyone who knows how to modify the reload scripts, please let me know.

To expand on that idea, perhaps it would be more appropriate to have worm "matter" spray from the muzzle. This would be just a mess of bits though as I'm sure empty worm casings is an idealistic fantasy that doesn't follow directly from the other weapon families.
William Dojinn on 9/10/2006 at 02:21
I like that idea, since it answers the big question of what exactly happens to the worm matter you plug into these weapons.
Bravo man. Bravo.
Now we need to see if thsi can get incorperated into a few other .gam file type things(straylight comes to mind)

Nice Mod, Blaydes. I think it really adds a lot to the "hectic" feel of a firefight against a few hybrids and a monkey or a turret as another element of something happening. I enjoy it alot, so thanks!!!
